Re: new CLASSIC improved map sucks

The color coding with the continents and australia is a good idea but not the white cirlces. All you can see with those circles are well the circles. I know that those were created to see the darker colors easier but now they are just making the lighter colors harder to see. I wish you could at least take the circles off, the map doesn't look as appealing with it.

I must say, I am so glad somebody started yet another thread on this. 35 wasn't nearly enough. Any chance we can create and bump enough of them so that there's no room on page one for anything else? TIA.

Yep, I agree. I couldn't read the numbers on the old map especially the blue ones. Now I can actually see those piles of blue armies coming at me.

I'm confused.

Is Dollars a user here?

As long as this "New Classic" map is up. It's all I can think about... I can't eat, I can't sleep.

I expect soon my wife will find what comfort she can in the arms of another man... I can't blame her. Damn you map foundry! Damn you all!

I know the US Dollar's cheap and getting cheaper by the day, but surely they can't be for free yet.

I did my ranting over in the foundry this morning... but for some reason the 'final forge' thread is remarkably quiet. People seem far keener to shout here than there, but I can't work out why.

I wonder if all of the cartographers really want this community dropping into their little world every day to assure that you are not messing up the best map in this site?

PLEASE just give us back the map!!!

Wicked, come clean

Postby detlef on Wed Apr 09, 2008 9:56 am

OK, if you're going to be a mod, I think you need to rise above certain agendas. There are like 5 or more threads about the classic map. When you're on the side of the company, you're typically a lot quicker to regulate this sort of thing. You step up and tell people to quit complaining and specifically, not to start yet another thread. Hell, don't these complaints about the classic map belong in suggestions?

However, it is clear that you don't like the new classic map so now all of a sudden you let all this go?

C'mon.

Maybe I'm tired of doing all the work myself? There are other mods you know; I try to give them a chance too. If you're really interested, whenever there's been tons of threads about big issues lately, I haven't been merging/moving them. But then again, I wouldn't expect you to notice that. That said, this could've been handled via PM, but I'll look for somewhere to move/merge it to now.

Classic Debacle: Please Visit the Map Foundry

Postby jiminski on Wed Apr 09, 2008 10:01 am

Hey guys,

well it appears that we are to blame for the changes to the Classic map. And that we have no right to an oppinion due to our absence from the map Foundry. Our lack of descent on this matter acted as consent!

Personally I had no idea that this was up for consideration, why would i? In my opinion the map was perfect and i could not imagine it's defacement being on their tinkers agenda.

however in the spirit of greater inter-forum communication; perhaps you would like to voice your opinions in the relevant thread below:

Classic Touch-up Thread

the Foundry does a great, great job!
They got it wrong here but we do need to tell them so. At present they feel consensus was reached due to our silence.

As a point for the future; i would urge a change to the map Quenching process, whereby changes to existing maps be put to the broader community in the general Forum for approval.

The Map foundry is an esoteric forum which few frequent and fewer know their way around it!
That is fine in the case of new maps and they should retain carte blanche in the creation of new and wonderful ones but the old 'CLASSICS' need more protection and consultation.

Perhaps if you spent less time blowing your own trumpet you'd be able to cope a little better? Alternatively, appoint some new mods that can do the job better than you. I for one can think of several thousand people who fit that particular bill... why not give it a go instead of constantly blaming everybody else for your failures?

wicked wrote:But then again, I wouldn't expect you to notice that.
Always nice to see a mod react to gentle criticism with borderling flaming... it's a sure sign of profesionalism and it sets the tone for the rest of the discussion so very very well.

Always nice to see a troll still following me around. Well not really, but whatever. This isn't in FW DM, so back off. Need I remind you that posting intentionally inflammatory remarks with the intention of pissing people off is never a good idea and puts you squarely in the realm of a troll.

FWIW - there was an announcement made about the Classic map being touched up... right here in this very forum...

I remember seeing it - but I don't know where it is now...?

Re: New Classic Map

Postby Ruben Cassar on Wed Apr 09, 2008 10:15 am

I voted "no" since the old map is much more legible.

However, the situation is ridiculous now. Nearly all map makers are saying the new one is better while gamers say it's not. This is not an issue of the gamers vs the map makers. It's as if the forum is split in a war right now.

No one is blaming anyone for what happened. I am sure that most people appreciate the hard work done by the map makers. It's just that this time the old version is much more playable and the overwhelming majority have voiced their opinion.

I am sure a peaceful solution will be found in due time, until then I believe the old one should replace the new one since most people want to play on that one. Enough said.

Eh, what's that? Blaming somebody else for the problem rather than accepting any responsibility of your own... how out of character for you. Are you feeling alright?

wicked wrote:This isn't in FW DM, so back off.

Well perhaps you should have thought about that when formulating the tone of your first post here? I'm really just following your lead...

Anyway, if attempts to begin discussion about the actual issues raised by the OP are going to be met with threats of banning then I suppose I'll cease posting and be on my way.
Good to have another healthy discourse with you wicked. See you next error.

We need more threads in praise of Wicked, she does a good job.

If this forum was anarchy it would suck pretty hard.
