Wikipedia Article

Postby john9blue on Thu Apr 10, 2008 10:51 pm

I was browsing through Wikipedia (as I often do when I'm bored), when I decided to read the Conquer Club article. I was surprised to discover that there was no Conquer Club article! It's strange that a game with over 200,000 accounts (as of a few minutes ago) doesn't even have it's own Wikipedia article.

So, I decided to write one myself. Check it out here, and make changes if necessary... please don't vandalize it though, it took time to write.

By the way, congratulations to TheOwenTJazzHour for creating account #200,000! \:D/

Thanks, and yeah, I classified it as an MMO (massively multiplayer online) game. :)

Edit: Looks like I didn't do it right, it's already got a few tags. Anyone here with extensive Wikipedia experience, feel free to edit it... it's my first article, after all. :|

Great job on creating the article. I think there should be a part about the forum. Or maybe a section that discusses the most noteworthy players.

Or you could've just followed the Salamander Software link to his company's website and see that it's owned by Brian Lack.

Brian Lack is an awesome name, by the way.

"Premium membership
For $25 a year, players can purchase "Premium Membership" for their account. This enables several features:

The four game limit is removed, and players can play an unlimited amount of games at one time.
Players can participate in Speed Games, where they are only given 5 minutes to take their turn.
Players can create Private games that are password protected.
The account's rank icon changes from silver to gold.
Premium membership can also be bought for other accounts as a gift. This is a common prize in tournaments."

You do a good job of explainging what premium membership is, but you don't explain what free accounts get, or even that the game is free to play, prior to this. I think you should emphasize that it is a free service, and maybe even that there are high ranking free players, in the introduction or before the premium section.

Well thank you for taking that on yourself John, we don't want to shamelessly self promote ourselves too much so much prefer it when our fans do it for us :)

If you're looking for "noteworthy" references, we were the sept 2007 game of the month at MPOGD (http://www.mpogd.com/gotm/?Date=9/1/2007), we're the top rate traffic'd online "game of world domination" on Alexa (http://www.alexa.com/browse/general/?&C ... Popularity) and we just plain rock :)

Please do keep it non-spammy though. We try hard to keep CC informal and not feel commercial.

As to us being removed from the wikipedia risk page, that happens every few months, wikipedia tries to keep advertising off of that page and so removes the links to games, then someone inevitably goes and adds it back. We'd prefer not to get into a fight with wikipedia about it so we (as a company) let them do their thing and don't interfere.
Retired.
