try it naked, with peanut butter betwixt thine buttocks!!! it is truly divine!!-0

The only people who will vote in this poll are people who frequent the Forums to begin with. I'd be interested to know how many people who play here actually frequent the Forums as well (I bet it is a very small percentage)...maybe another poll is in order :)

actually the system has not failed. the system has produced a better map in all aspects. people are fond of the old one, true and i can't complain as it is normal but they will realise in time that the new one is better.

i used to have a wallet i loved. unfortunately it was torn and looked like shit (12 years of using it took their toll). my wife gave me a brand new leather wallet. very nice very cool looking, but it seemed something was wrong. it didn't have the familiar aspect of my older one. so i didn't use it. until a week later when my wife threw away the old junk. i was mad, we had a huge fight and because i had nothing else i grabbed the new wallet and used it. at first it felt strange in my back pocket as the old one was shaped to the form of my butt-cheek. but after a while i got used to it. i discovered it does look nicer, it's a lot cleaner and has many more pockets. now i love it.

yeas sorry DiM.. you are right we are wrong!

ignoring that something happened to upset a lot of people is very helpful.

ooh they'll get used to it .. it'll all blow over.. sheese what a patronising attitude. It does back to the concept which Detlef could not comprehend! Beauty and perfection are illusory, they are not an exact science and can be based not just on your idea of idealised perfection, they are based on a whole conglomerate of imperfect things which become a gestalt perception.

And yes! part of that is tradition but the mere resonance of tradition and what it evokes, creates what gives us comfort! And yes a perception in the face of all the other facts of 'perfection'!
There you go again. Listen, I get the notion of imperfection and beauty. It's why Lauren Hutton never "fixed" her teeth or why Maggie Gylenhall shouldn't get a boob job. I understand, trust me. What you need to understand is that the quote I commented on. The one that inspired you to attack my character was rather Freudian. "It was perfect...we were used to it". Perhaps you didn't mean to imply that it was perfect because you were used to it but it sure came off that way. And it was a rather convenient slip because I highly suspect that is precisely the issue that many people have.

Ask yourself this: When you first came to CC. If the classic map was as it is right now, would you have walked away? Or would you have, like me, said "Oh cool, on-line Risk. Let's give this a go". My guess is that the vast majority of you all would have just plugged in and played. I'm sure that there are those of you who truly oppose the move for artistic reasons. I'd be very surprised, however, if there aren't plenty who have just grasped onto that reason as a convenient way to rationalize their inclination to complain or knee jerk reaction to change.

Now, do us both a favor and don't "arrogantly" dismiss this as "not getting it"

hehe yeap you did miss the point again (or at least part of it)... the point was that the whole package created a perfection (completely subjective and flawed though it may be to another).. which is based in perceivable imperfection but also our comfort in its entirety. So yes part of our love of this map is that we are used to it.
We do not need or want a new improved version.... we have all the other wonderous map to get our other fixes. Better Graphics, more functions and game play options and yet more games than on any other board are played on the Classic!

And your last point is moot as it is not the case.
Your premise is circular: if it were not tradition it would not be tradition
.. Well the facts of the point are undeniable but on reflection... slightly pointless.

anyway.. round and round we go.

i do apologise if the map maker is in fact a member of the site (i was told that he was from outside but reading one of DiMs posts he may well not be)
I know how hurtful some of the comments may have been and it was not the intention.
Simple fact is.. that the suggestions were posted in General Discussion they were complained about and taken off for isolated implementation in the Map Foundry.
Sorry but most people do not go to the foundry .. we are all sinners and we are not worthy but it is the fact and it needs to be considered when the dust settles.

Anyway, am Far from being anti the Foundry and far from being someone who would not like to have participated in the process of this decision.. I didn't see it! sorry for that .. i just was not aware of the changes about to be made!
And it is the same for a lot of others ...
sure the 63 votes are the vocal minority but we appear to be the majority of the minority of the whole. the only way you will ever know if we are reflective or not is to take a total vote of all members.

do sinners go to the gate of heaven and say:

"hey God, i sinned all my life and i didn't go to church because honestly the strip joint and the local pub were closer to my home plus they had a nice and shiny neon logo that made me aware of their presence. your church had nothing but an old wooden sign and a cross. so don't blame me for not coming in, blame yourself for not advertising better."

what do you think God will do?

answer: suck it up cupcake. in the next life make sure you stop by from time to time to repent.

ahh i am glad we have got that straight.... The Foundry does, after all, think it is God.... ;)
That does answer a lot of questions.

Ok ok! let's move on! but can we move on together?.. please know I/we are not being difficult to spite you!
We are genuinely gutted about the changes ... that may seem pathetic .. childish and ridiculous but that's the way people are sometimes.

and we were not aware that the changes were coming .. please understand that!
And it made people bloody ungrateful about the changes.
And i regret any hurt to the maker of the map but it is important to me and many i have spoken to...

to be wise after the fact is not how any of us would have chosen to be.. it wastes everyones time and energy.
this is an emotive issue but can we all try to be wise after the fact now please?

geez you are all so long winded... too much to read through :P i love the foundry's work and i try to take a peek every so often, usually twice a week? see how maps are going i dont leave feedback often but occasionally... and it dosnt take more then 2min of my time to see these maps... I dont care between the two maps but if i had a vote it would go to the new one for the sheer fact of the great job they do and all this complaining after the fact is getting annoying

I like others never visit the map foundry

HOWEVER ANY MAJOR CHANGES TO EXISTING MAPS SHOULD BE POSTED IN ALL FORUMS/ PM'd TO EVERYONE.

I dont have the time to go through all the threads to protect the maps that we all have come to love dearly.

what? they should PM you about every freaking change to every aspect of conquer club at all times? yeah, just what i want in my box, crap i don't care about... and by the way... they did pop into the GD and warn people that the changes were underway and if you wanted to say anything to go to the foundry. i recall it very vividly, because i posted some smart ass remark about being annoyed that the map nerds were invading the GD yet again.. guess what? i went over to the thread, read it, and didn't really care, because THE CLASSIC MAP SUCKS AND THEY MADE IT BETTER!!!!-0

p.s.-go look at the official vote!!! all 63 of you are getting owned in the vote!! what majority?!! where is this majority that is so vocal?!! ha! HA! HA!!!!

p.p.s.-I VOTED OUT OF SPITE!!!!! you spammed up the GD like a bunch of lunatics!!!

Okay.... so it's "Official"... the changes to the Classic map was all a carefully orchestrated effort to get more people to actually get involved in The Map Foundry... :^o

Seriously, the Foundry encourages people to drop in and place input on maps, and about 3 new maps are being added to this site every 4 - 6 weeks, so why not make your opinion known while a map's in progress?

Back, forwards and forwards. The english by far being a superior nation and leading light in the history of the world, came up with a numerous number of fine sayings and literature during their reign as a world power.

one clearly springs to mind, if it aint broken, then dont fix it!

Well, you see one thing, i see another (you probably don't even see the inflammatory condescension of your words either?) you need to read my words and try not to twist them, before we can enter into meaningful dialogue. (i did not call DiM arrogant and the statement regarding god was a joke instigated by him.. Also you have to look at Det's perpetual reference to childish behaviour, which is carefully calculated to get a desired response and not to add oil to troubled waters.. Blood was hot on both sides of the argument.)

The dust is settling, both agendas are satisfied .. and sadly, as with many diplomatic disasters, we needed 'war' in order to reach suitable compromise.
Unfortunately, normally well reasoned and polite individuals (on both sides!) became impassioned. Nothing wrong with that, it shows what this stupid game and this amazing website inspires in us!

Put yourselves in my/our shoes, i have actually tried to put myself in the foundry footwear. I have said at every stage what a fantastic job it does and how much i respect it!
At every stage we were told that our oppinion was not valid as we were not there in the first instance to participate. We were dismissed by the vocal Foundry members who worked in mirrored opposition to us. Again this is very understandable; every nest has it's soldier ants.

I understand Why the foundry felt like this.. i honestly do! I said all the way through this was a very special situation for the Classic map and the system, in this very specific case, failed the wider community outside of the foundry.

Now why did we shout so loud?

Yes because we were angry at the confusion in our strategic cogitation when we found this map without warning (i add that many foundry people also say the map was not the right choice regarding the circular number dishes)
But also it was the anger of desperation; desperation that perhaps we could do nothing about it! the pivotal power-house of the foundry had made the final decision and how could we realistically change it.!?
Many unpopular changes had gone before, we had shouted and nothing had been changed. Perhaps sub-consciously we knew we had to shout louder.

Anyway, I hope all parties are satisfied and the best way of resolving this was found with the vote for all members. It is a shame that some 'flesh-wounds' were necessarily inflicted in the process.
For my part their resonance will not be lasting, I hope the same to be true on the reverse side. ;)
