I have now a game on 8-thoughts where I started with +6 bonus... unfortunately due to unbelievable crummy dice, it did nothing for me... maybe even did more damage in the long run by affecting my deployments in an underdeveloped formation. And the way you get the bonus on that map does nothing for allowing you to hold 3 individual spots spread all over the map.
The other day I had a game on Madness where I started with +2 and the other guy started +1... and even a +2 won't determine the game unless the neutrals are dropped in a way you can't effectively break it without diverting your energy... (one reason not to play classic 1v1). I'd say a drop of 3 of the 4 Australia territories and a line of neutrals blocking up SE Asia is about as one sided a drop as you can get, even though nobody actually "starts" with the bonus on turn 1... the key is that it's fortified and quickly becomes impenetrable.
