Feedback Rules for Positive Feedback: Do they matter?

Postby Itrade on Wed May 14, 2008 9:42 am

The Feedback Rules wrote:- Leave only fair and factual comments that relate to a specific game.
- Do not fish for feedback (i.e. leave positive feedback to get positive feedback in return).

I think the first rule could do with an update. You're only allowed to leave one feedback per user, so your feedback should be allowed to be about the player you're leaving the feedback for, not just the way he played in the game you were in.

We tried to moderate the positives before and there was such a public outcry against it, we stopped. There is SO much out there and since it won't be reported since people want it, that it would be impossible to fix at this point. So basically, the rules apply to neutrals and negatives now, but we will remove any positive on request if you don't like/want it (and have already asked the person who left it to remove it). With what we have in the works for the feedback system, those silly positives will be put in a more proper place.

This will be addressed as well with how we're thinking of changing it. BTW, you can leave one feedback *of each type* for each player, not one total.

I will abstain until a 'Tazer' option is presented.

Thank you.

I don't fish for positive feedback through feedback.

Whether I'm fishing for positive feedback when I wish people good luck at the start of the game in the chat might be open for question. It's not deliberate on my part, but positive experiences can lead to positive feedback right?

I don't fish for feedback.

I do leave feedback specific to the average play for a player over time, except for some new players. Mostly, I like a good attitude (light on the complaints, no swearing, etc.), reasonable play (though I reserve judgement on poor play -- I have been known to get "help" from my now 18 month old on occasion -- help for which my opponent was generally grateful..: )...). I comment on good play mostly when a new player does better than usual and mostly because I know OTHER people care, not because I really look at that factor.

When I look at feedback, I read any negs, and sometimes a few positives.

I have left very, very few negatives and each was richly deserved. More usually, I will leave a neutral. (even that rarely).

If i get my ass handed to me in a game, I generally leave a positive feedback. If I have played more than one very enjoyable game with a player (even if they lost all the games), I will leave a positive feedback. I have had one of my feedbacks removed because it was "retalitory", though my opponent was a ? guy who got great dice, accused ME of cheating with the dice, he won the game. then he left me a neg, to which i responded with what a jerk-wad he was for leaving that. so, i guess i abused it in that case, both our negs were removed. I don't ever fish for feedback. If i play multiple games with a person, i leave a positive on the one i was beat in. If they leave me one - great, if not - fine. other than the neg i left that was removed, i only left one for confirmed multis that were busted. I don't think I abuse the feedback system. However, if i do, it is for more general "great guy/gal" type scenarios, and in those cases, i truly mean it, I really enjoyed the game.

I leave positive feedback to new players who manage to beat me so that they will be encouraged to stay on the site. More new players sticking around means more players who would be ready to buy premium which means more money for Lack to hire extra help with which means more updates with more frequency on CC. :D

I also leave positive feedback for my teammates after long games. This is for three reasons: first, they have to put up with me bossing them around in the game chat the whole time so leaving them some positive feedback is the least I can do to make up for it; second, they were responsible for the win or/and fun time and sending them positive feedback is my way of saying "Thanks for the win or/and fun time, dude"; third, I don't gain as much points from a team game as I do from the 8-player games that I usually play, so I would like gain a little bit extra, so I go fishing for positive feedback.

Along with that, I leave feedback after speed games as well. Game chat is used more often in speed games than in 24-hour-games, and because of that I get to know the people I'm playing with quite well before the game is over. I tend to lose a lot in speed games, so getting piece of positive feedback is a nice consolation prize. After being sent a positive feedback from someone that I've met and talked to for a while I feel obliged to return the favour.

When I leave feedback I will try to talk about both the player and the game and because of this my feedback is pretty lengthy.

I voted for the "Yes, I both fish for feedback and leave comments that relate to more general things than a specific game" option.
