Casual or obcessive compulsive

Postby Iron Butterfly on Tue Jun 03, 2008 7:30 pm

I enjoy this game alot and am constantly surprised at the nuance one needs to become a better player. One can argue that rank alone is a good indication of ones skill but I dont buy into that. I consider myself a good player but only in the sense of my comfort zone, which most folk play in.

At what point do you think the game becomes a time sinc for you in regards to playing for rank...or does it? When I first started plying I plyed like 30 games at once and won like 1 or 2. I find more enjoyment now in plying maybe 5 or 6 at a time.
What has helped you move up the ranks? A good team mate? 1vs1 that give you a 50 50 chance? A good clan? Knowing a specific board?

just curious

All of those things have helped me raise my score. Except, I'd avoid the 1v1 with 50/50 chance. If you are looking to gain points playing 1v1 get to know some of the larger or more complicated maps, and learn to love the fog.

Having good strategy on conquest maps (currently AoR Might, AoR Magic, and New World) is where my points came from.

I can hold my own in most terminator games, but I'm best with those 3 maps.

1v1 helps when you have a low score. For a week or so now, ive been searching for 1v1 games started by players with higher scores than me. Since i dont really care about the settings, there are a lot of open games. Since i have a low score, if i win even 35% of my games, chances are--my score will raise. Also the games go quickly.

Once i get to a higher score, I'll stop this strategy, but for now it works pretty well.

Doubles is useless because you have to share the points with a teammate. 6 player does not get you the points that an 8 player will get you.

I guess what I really want to know is...how many games do you need to play on average to raise it a significant level. Im sure it differs with different folks. Do you spam the boards? Sorry Im so inquisitive about game habbits...its just that cc rank level reminds me of why I never made max levl in mmos like EQ,DAOC and others. I always felt guilty reserving large chunks of time to do somthing that in the end is really meaningless when you get right to it.

For me there has always been a fine line of playing for fun and playing compulsively to reach that next level or rank. LOL not that I have reached any grand milestone...I thing the highest i have made is sarge and then plummeted down to cook, cadet, cook cadet cook cadet ect.

Just feeling chatty :D

That depends on how quickly you learn, and improve. there are lots of ways to get high scores, but the one I like, and would recommend to you,is just to find maps and styles that you really enjoy playing, and play against higher ranked people whenever possible. Learn from them, get better, ,and have fun doing it. Sure, that isn't the quickest method of raising your score, but IMO it's by far the best.
