You think I shouldn't attempt a 29 on 8?
Kemmler wrote:Ok I finally got to colonel and I was happy. I joined a freestyle AoR1 game with a cook. He clearly doesnt know how to play and uses all his armies. Then with my army of 29 I go over to attack him. I get through 8 armies and lose them all. He comes out and kills me.
I WANT MY POINTS BACK... from 10 hard earned games I lose them all in one with this crap luck. It's unreal.
There goes colonel by a long way and it'll take days to get back.

He didn't say to not attempt it. He said learn when to stop. There is a big difference, and he is right. Sometimes you just have to realize that even though you should have won, that if you continue you run the risk of screwing yourself, and that is when you need to stop.
Visaoni wrote:No, you can't. That is why you don't use auto in situations where it could screw you. 29v8 is something I wouldn't auto unless losing really wouldn't make a difference.

There's about a 1/10000 chance you'd lose that. If you think that's really a situation to watch out for, be my guest, but the fact htat CC screws people constantly is more than enough to piss me off.
Once again I'd much rather have consistency play into a strategy game than what is considered "random" which is more streaky than anything.
There's about a 1/10000 chance you'd lose that.

1 in ~2850 actually :p
But yeah, the lesson to learn here is... if he had 9, how many was he going to get next turn? Say he gets 5... so he has 14 total tops... play it down to when you have 18ish armies. If you haven't won, wait til next turn. Guaranteed win over 5 minutes is better than guaranteed loss over 2 minutes.![]()

Not according to the Risk battle calculator which you merely input the numbers and they calculate the probability.

A little hehe. Anyhow, your 1 in 10000 quote forced me to go back and check my maths. Turns out there was a tiny error in one calculation method, it's actually about a 1 in 3388 chance of losing in a 28v8 battle, meaning it happens more than twice as often as what happens in my sig.

The risk battle calculator STILL shows when inputting 28 v 8 that the "probability of winning" is .9997.
