Why IE runs so much faster than Firefox?

Postby gdeangel on Fri Jul 11, 2008 1:37 pm

Anyone know why IE runs so much faster than Firefox on this site? There is no question that firefox is constantly "loading", often "connection timing out with the server"... This seems to happen with or without greasemonkey on, and I have this problem much less with IE. It is particularly annoying when you just want to roll your attacks and get on with a turn.
My ever constant two last games seem to have no end in sight!

I've got 2.0.0.15, whatever the heck that means. In fact, it just "self updated" a couple of days ago so I thought I was current. I'll have to go get 3.0 and see if you're pulling my leg...

FF3 is the browser of choice in CC so go and download it, then give it a try with a few key add-ons which are available for free.

I use the latest update of FF 2 and it seems that CC has slowed down considerably the last week or so (and using a heck of a lot more of CPU too :?: ). No idea why but I guess it's time for FF 3 anyway. :D

Well, definitely FF 3 seems to be like night and day compared to that other piece of crap version. But there is no doubt that the round trip on gameplay is faster in IE than in FF 2.xyx ... and that begs the question why? and is there a way to improve the site by looking into this difference.

You might want to stop and consider this little fact: FF 2.x.y is a slow browser. It's like your favourite mule. Not very quick, but very solid and sturdy!

They are various types of notifiers I think. They use an interval check like an RSS feed. It your really trying to get instant notice of when your turn comes up, you do better having the emails sent from the site to your cell phone or something like that. It gets to be a nuisance though if you have a lot of games going... or watching threads.

Here's link to conquer tell http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8225
and tell me when http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9004. I believe the difference between the two is that conquer tell sits in the firefox window and has an icon for each active game that can hotlink you directly to that game when it turns green. The tell-me-when notifier lives in your sys-tray and automatically changes color when a game is ready to play (I never got it to install properly... It's not a grease monkey script).
