New players deadbeating

Postby crazycoders on Wed Jul 16, 2008 12:12 pm

Could we change the rules for deadbeating players. There seems to be a rush of new people to the game recently, but most of them are deadbeating games constantly... Could the developpers change the ruling for deadbeating and either:

1. Allow the users to vote someone out (Any active player having played a turn and that had to wait for a deadbeat to happen could be allowed to vote the deadbeaters immediately out of the game.)

2. Any player not ranked yet gets kicked out of games on the second deadbeating they do. And if they have already deadbeated 2 times on any still active game, then kick them out automatically if they deadbeat in another game. (Whatever the number of times they have deadbeated already)

I think this is necessary because some sequential games i'm currently playing have 4 to 6 deadbeating players, it then takes around 6 days to 1 week to play a single turn. I can play as many as i want since i'm registered, but even so, having 41 games waiting for 2 to 3 days each is annoying. I have a game that comes back to me after such a period and i wonder what was my tactic since it has been so long... I can't even imagine a player that is not registered and has only 4 games going at a time.

I agree that it would be nice if we could come up with something to combat this, but I think that your first suggestion could be abused.

Maybe something could be integrated with the upcoming automated attendance tracker?

I've noticed this phenomena as well. I'm one of these new members myself, but I actually want to play the game. The voting system does sound nice, but Matroshka is right about it being abused.

I have come up with a little system of my own.It may need some minor changes, but here it is:

1- If anyone logs in during their turn and misses it, they're automatically booted. Obviously, they don't want to be in the game anymore.

2- In a sequential game - a missed turn results in a shortened turn on the following round. This could be 12 hours instead of a whole day. If they miss another turn, it can be shortened again. This will get rid of deadbeaters quicker while preventing the game from being slowed down as much as it would be otherwise.

3- Players that get booted often can be tagged before a game starts. The other players in the game can vote on whether or not the player is allowed to play. A deadbeat-to-games finished ratio can be configured. If a player can finish a set amount of consecutive games without deadbeating, the tag will be removed. This little plan may also be abused. Players should be curtious to allow a tagged member participate in games on occasion.

Again, this will need a bit of tweaking. I couldn't come up with anything for freestyle games. I was thinking suspended turns, but that wouldn't work too well.

In an assassin game it is not free points, it messes up the game bad... Take for example an assassin game on age of realms 3 where i have a player deadbeating. This player is not getting bonuses and is freely open to attacks... Next turn it will be allright cause the player will drop, but if on this turn the predator if this deadbeater understands correctly, he could just swoop victory by clapping fingers... So no... it's not free points :P

Why leave it, if it pisses me off that my games are taking 1 week to complete a turn and i'm not the only one, the problem is worth mentionning. This kind of comment is not helping the cause...

Thank you

I'm glad you guys enjoy my ideas. Crazycoders, your ideas are good as well, but shouldn't we be posting this in the ideas forum? I would hate to see our efforts go to waste.

Some people don't enjoy having their games ruined because of someone not wanting to play. It would be nice if members were sensible enough to not get involved with something that they'll regret. Therefore, it is a big deal. Maybe not as big as this guys' nose >> :^o , but still big.

If someone recruits any new members, please be sure to thoroughly inform them on deadbeating and have them make sure that they don't deadbeat.
