I'm pretty new here so I don't really know the people involved.

It's just from a logical point of view they would have fired you while being ill, not when you are better again.
If you messed things up in the past wouldn't they have taken action back then?

Just sounds a bit weird to me

Wow. You have spent countless hours tracking multis and watching over the forums. No matter who didn't like you, I hope they have the brains to see that. You have taken shit from numerous people on this site for just doing your job. Out of all the mods, you get picked on the most and I think you have handled it well. I'm just a little shocked that after 2 years of helping the site, that you were tossed so easily and without the chance to talk it out.

Go Wicked...good luck with things, as said previously you were firm but fair.
Sound like Twill likes to play RL power games and unfortunately if all is recorded correctly, then CC (and lack) is the great loser.
I can also read between the lines in the Foundry conversations that some other Elders might not be happy with Twill and a lot of his decisions.

Me neither. I think it is all a ruse....the lyme disease, apology, firing, and then the subsequent rehiring after the outcry from the masses. I am very skeptical. Who knows, maybe I am completely wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. But at least I am on record as saying what my gut is telling me.....wait what's that??? Burritos??? Let's GO!!!

Ah, let it go. If your right, this site will be foundering soon. The only think that makes this place interesting really are the contributions of the community. Any high-school computer geek can set up the nuts and bolts of a site like this. Throw in a little cash, and start to scale it up. The thing that takes the real effort is content... and content includes personalities that are remarkable, which, based on the number of references you get in lots of threads, whether bad or good, you are one. Continuing to bestow this site with your personality is probably a questionable call on your part. You should probably come back with a different name (after, of course, your husband/sig other/cat / pet fish) changes your pw and redirects the email from your account... that way people who come here ad read the forum will say "where is this 'wicked' person who was so off the wall and pervasive on in the community consciousness?" and the answer should be "she not here any more... this sucks" rather than "well, she sort of pissed off the boss, but she's still hanging out over there in live chat...

and if it's a ruse, then this is just a really good way to further entrench your "mod" image into the community and in the process stimulate some good content creation (which has been a little lacking for a while now). Ha ha... I made a funny!

Considering how many times Twill defended her, when she was acting erratic (which she has admitted was from the drugs), and taking her side, I find it hard to believe he would be firing her now. Or maybe he is simply that slow to process logic. I am unsure, since I don't know him. Is it Canadian April FOol's day or something?

Sickening.
No comment from Twill, so I guess he has no defence.
This place is falling apart at the seams.
You were an excellent Mod, firm but fair, and a good laugh.
I'm disgusted that Twill treats illness with such inhumane disregard. But not at all surprised.

Very nicely put

It's such bullshit that they would fire u becasue u got sick. This site is falling apart

i was just thinking, i still love this site as much as i always have, and it just keeps getting better. sure, a lot of that has to do with the awesome code geeks who keeping coming up with new add-ons and such, and sure, lack doesn't come out with the updates anywhere near as fast as he could/maybe should......but i'm in no way dissatisfied with my gaming experience. CC still pwns. and realistically, we have no way of knowing how productive CC employees are. only they know, and we just have wicked's side of the story here.......

i'm also wondering......i definitely don't mean to make light of your illness in any way, wicky.....but i am really surprised to see you go down in flames and try to start a public brawl with lack and twill......so i wonder if your meds/brain chemistry are still affecting your judgment or reasoning?

This one is for Twill and Lack...especially you Lack, since you're the business owner...

Disciplinary Probation

HRinfodesk---Canadian Payroll and Employment Law, April 2005

Disciplinary probation is a process for addressing employee misconduct. It is a sanction imposed by the employer that allows a problem employee to remain employed subject to certain terms and conditions. It allows for a means of correction for on-the-job related behaviour problems and/or performance problems. Probation is one step away from termination and is part of a progressive disciplinary measures policy.

Although employers practice preventative measures and guide employees in attempts to correct undesirable situations, there are times when these methods just do not work. Disciplinary probation can be a very effective form of discipline when employees are experiencing problems with job related performance or have job related behaviour problems. Through counseling, supervisors monitor performance during a specified period of time and encourage employees to improve performance related problems or job related behaviour problems. Disciplinary probation may be imposed for a period of up to six months, but may be extended to a total of one year by the employer. This is a designated time period during which the employee must improve identified deficiencies in their performance or behaviour. Improvement standards and time frames are put into a written Performance Improvement Plan by the supervisor and a copy is given to the employee at the time they are placed on disciplinary probation.

The imposition of disciplinary probation requires that supervisors make a concerted effort to meet regularly with the employee during the probationary period to assist him or her in improving performance or behaviour. A supervisor's failure to meet with the employee on a regular basis and discuss improvements would make this type of discipline ineffective.

Employees on disciplinary probation cannot be promoted or granted merit increases. It is also critical that, should the supervisor not see an acceptable improvement in performance or behaviour during the probationary period, they must extend the probationary period prior to its expiration. Once an employee reaches the six month date when the probation expires, the supervisor cannot retroactively extend the probation. Also, employees granted leave while serving disciplinary probation may have their probation extended by the number of days absent on leave provided the employee receives notice of the extension prior to the expiration of disciplinary probation.

It is important to note that disciplinary probation should not be an employment practice unless it is a term and condition of employment. An employer cannot place an employee on probation for poor performance or misconduct unless their employment contract or written workplace policies provides for that, generally, at the time of hire. If the employer tries to impose probation anyway, the employee may be able to assert constructive dismissal and trigger their right to a termination/severance package. In addition, employers should identify and list offenses which may warrant discipline, suspension or termination. The list does not need to be inclusive of all offences, but is intended to assist employees in knowing what the expected standards of performance and/or conduct are that must be maintained in the workplace subject to the organization’s environment and culture. It will also assist employers to identify examples of offenses within each level of discipline measures.

This whole situation, sounds like personalities have stomped all over someone who does a great job, and that is a crying shame.
I cannot count how many times wicked has found and busted multis in live chat. She is very much a front line service Mod, and as a result is in the spotlight more then others.
Perhaps this front line exposure has at times put her in positions that made her an easy target to the Trolls , cheats, and general asses, that are, and always will be a part of the CC community, and as a result allowed this situation to escalate.
It is a sad thing to see her being judged by so few people, and not being recognized for all the time, effort and good work she has done here. (Which btw does not get the same kind of exposer, that the negative stuff does.)
Wicked is the first one on the scene and is not afraid to call it as it is. So as a result ruffles feathers from time to time.

I was once told : "That if the people you have power over all like you, that you are doing your job wrong." ( Congratulations wicked, you must have been doing a better job then anyone realized, Sorry it resulted in this type of short sited decision.)
I feel this is a great loss to the community as a whole, and I fear that all the little things she has been doing, will get left undone.
I do not know the whole story, but I do know that wicked has done way more good for CC, then bad.
Shame on you Admins, for tossing aside a great asset. Shame [-X [-X

Wick,
Never much cared for you, and really thought your mod powers went to your head...especially when I saw you threatening to censure people who disagreed with you.
However, will give you props for your multi hunting jedi skills and as well will criticize your rhetoric throwing a bunch emotionally reactionary kids into a frenzy saying that we should feel bad for you b/c your medicated...
But nonetheless, best of luck.

Hey folks,

I'm not going to get into a he-said-she-said here because that would just get messy and I don't want to slander wicked, despite what she or others may think, I have more respect for her than that. CC owes her a lot for the time she has spent volunteering for this site, it is what it is today in large part because of her efforts, personality and knowledge of the community. However, for many reasons, we did ask her to step down several days ago, and the discussions since then have unfortunately not demonstrated change to the "what" that led us to this decision

The decision to ask her to step down was not an easy one, and in the short run it will no doubt make things more difficult as we find our footing without wicked taking a lead in the mod team. However, there is a lot of history behind this decision, and this had little to do with her illness or her behaviour during it. As I said, I don't want to go more into as I believe the issues and reasons behind the decision are a private matter.

We had hoped that we could have a more amicable split, but it seems as though that's not going to be the case. I do agree with Wicked that you, as a community, are indeed responsible for keeping me and the admins accountable, however, there are better ways to do it than this.

The community here is the heart and soul of this site, and it is a sad truth that it is slowly being taken over by a negative and unwelcoming atmosphere, where new additions to the community are often shouted down and told to f*ck off rather than welcomed and made to feel at home. Changing this current atmosphere and working towards a more open and accepting community is something that has been very important to us for a while now. Lack, Andy and I all started out as volunteers here, doing this in our spare time because we love it. CC has grown very quickly, faster than most of us would have imagined, and while it is a lot more "work" and less of a hobby, we all still love it, despite what wicked claims about us not caring about it any more.

Wicked, I won't lie and say it was always a pleasure to work with you, but you always kept me and the other admins on their toes and I have always been in awe of your ability to moderate, your dedication and your commitment even when we were butting heads over policy, process or direction. I wish we had been able to work out the other issues over the years, and still hope that we can. As we said in private, the door is still open to you if we see the changes that need to happen.

To everyone else, whatever your opinion of wicked is and whatever you think about us asking her to step down, please do give wicked the respect she deserves and understand that as much as I would like to explain this decision in more detail, I cannot.

Respect each other's opinion and viewpoints and hopefully we can move forward from here and keep improving the community that makes this site so great.

Sounds to me like Wicked overly dramatized the situation, although I can't say Twill's response really addressed anything rather than trying to sound professional.
