BAN NEWBIES FROM ASSASSIN GAMES!

Postby gorehound on Thu Jul 31, 2008 6:26 am

i think newbies should be banned from assassin games until they have played 20 games at least. it absolutely ruins the game for everyone when somebody does something like in game 2947546 where the guy attacked all around him on his first move, didnt get anything and left all 1's on his territories. Needless to say the game was a walkover for the player targetting him. nothing against newbies ( of course we were all newbies once) , but some of these guys do not understand the rules fully. Make it a requirement that a minimum number of games have had to be played before they can enter assassin games. this affects this type of game much more than any other.

I think we should be fair here. If we ban newbies from assassin games it would reduce the likely hood of targets deadbeating

Probably not a bad idea -> should probably be moved to Suggs & Bugs - and formified though.

So how will waiting 20 games for them to play Assassin games teach them to play it any better when they finally do? Not at all...

Maybe something besides the red target sign...like a text message that says YOUR TARGET IS BLUE would help reinforce it.

I don't think 20 games is right, I've formified it and only New Recruits cannot play that type

Nobody should be banned from playing any type of game setting on this site until they've reached a certain game limit. That is simply absurd and close-minded.

If you don't like them, don't play public assassin games. Better yet, if you have a newbie in your assassin game perhaps you should reach out and post a message in game chat reminding them of the way the game works, or send them a friendly PM. Why is it that everyone thinks that the best solution to problems around here with newbies is to "ban" them from everything? It's not like that is going to help.

Yes, the symbol could be explained more clearly, but banning them? No.

OP, I play freestyle, by the time I log on maybe 1 or 2 of the new recruits have played turns

Then you are willingly taking that risk by playing a freestyle assassin game, now aren't you? I agree that a message could be placed in assassin games to make them more easily understood, but banning them from playing them is not needed in my opinion.

I don't mind deadbeats in standard, terminator, or teams for a matter of fact. But what drives me round the bend is my target deadbeating. Its more annoying then a bad run of dice because with this you know somebody is getting an advantage

In standard games a deadbeat often gives a player an advantage because many times they now have a large defensive border made up of neutral armies, often of more than 3 on a territory.

In Terminator games, a deadbeat gives another player the advantage because they know that said player is not going to be doing any attacking, and they can just corner that player and get the points while preventing others from doing so.

In Team games, the teammate of the deadbeat can often gain an advantage if the other team isn't smart enough because he receives all of his deadbeat teammates armies.

So.... really, the point that a deadbeat in freestyle gives an unfair disadvantage/advantage over other game settings really doesn't stand up.

My advice for everybody if they catch someone in a particular game type making a move such as the one the OP mentioned would be to point that player to the Instructions tab to read up on what game options are available here. That way the player will learn something and wish to stay here on the site rather than getting flamed and run off for something they were unaware of.

OP I never said that freestyle games are affected more it's just that they are games which more newbies play first turn on. Assassin games are affected the most because the people who spend 3 turns attacking one player then have to attack a different player.

Night Strike most of the players don't turn up in the first player.

I know what you said, and you ignored where I said anyone playing freestyle willingly and openly assumes all risk by playing those games. Be it deadbeats in assassin, clickable maps, whatever.

However I, am trying to get my assassin medals at the moment. What ruins the game is when you know that 3 players are going to be left after the deadbeats but you can't attack anyone because you don't know who your target is.

Mountains out of molehills here, max is gr8. Tell me honestly, out of 50 assassin games that you play, now many are directly "ruined" by deadbeats? A handful? Maybe 7 or 8? If so, that isn't a big deal to be honest.

I guess I agree. But I would go a little bit farther. First off, let's ban assassin games altogether. While were at it, lets ban newbies too. : )

would it be possible to add assassin symbols to the corners of the game map so that people realize that its an assassin game instead of a normal one. or perhaps even have a disclaimer for people the first time that they try to join an assassin game?
