My personal approach is just the opposite
I give people respect until they give me a reason not to. I don't necessarily expect the same from everyone else.
Events sometimes sometimes cause me to lose respect for people.
A default position of respect would do a lot for this site methinks.

I think it probably would as well. But when the general default is on the side it's currently on, those who start in your position tend to get abused.

Yes, but after the discussion that spawned this thread I decided to be controversial and display some suggestive genitalia in my avatar instead.

"A default position of respect would do a lot for this site methinks."
"Agreed, but only if the show they deserve it."
Does that second statement seem to be totally contradictory to anyone else?
It really depends on what you mean by respect. I will give everyone the respect of common courtesy until they prove to me that they don't deserve it, but it takes something good to earn my true respect.

A lot of people abuse the forums and abuse me, because they know they can get away with certain things. These little people (and no that is not a flame, just fact) are often highly ranked, and know they can get away with more than the average player (such as myself). It's just a shame these boards are so poorly moderated, as disrespect is suited for one forum and one forum only.
