Let's hope so. He does come from the same mold as DM (by "Mold", I mean "forum", and by "forum", I mean "Flame Wars"). Truth be told, I read Flame Wars quite often. It's a guilty pleasure of mine. Everybody knows FW is a spectator sport, something along the lines of gladiatorial combat and cockfights.

Nobody said this was going to be a utopia... all we're trying to do is create a forum that's better than the ones we already have. So I conclude that you either enjoy the mediocrity of the current forum (sadism), or believe that the current forum is utopia itself (delusion). This will not be a dictatorship, it will be a libertarian oligarchy (at least as I imagined it). So don't spread rumors like that.

You're really going to have to prove yourself Snorri... you have a lot of random, pointless posts.

OH NO SHIT SHERLOCK! This doesn't say anything about my capability of behaving in a civil manner though. I troll plenty of threads for the sheer pleasure of fucking with people, but I have shown (unlike you) that I can also debate other people who act reasonable without resorting to cheap stuff.

The fact that I post loads of bullshit all the time does not mean I can't talk sense, I just rarely see a reason to do so.

Well, okay... but we have no reason to believe that you won't troll people in the new forum. You're saying "I swear I can do the right thing, even though I almost never do it in the current forum, and have shown no sign of stopping". Of course, I can't exactly take you on your word, now can I?

Which is interesting, because entertainment is one of the main reasons I talk with you guys (except in FW - see above). Here's another gem:

Snorri1234 wrote:I have shown (unlike you) that I can also debate other people who act reasonable without resorting to cheap stuff.

You resorted to using cheap stuff ("unlike you") in the SAME SENTENCE that you claimed that you don't resort to cheap stuff. Sometimes I wonder if you guys use logical fallacies just to see if we can spot them.

Face it, Snorri - you'll argue with people if there are others on your side, or if it's easy to do so; when it heats up, however, you'll run away from the argument, take your classic "bemused and apathetic" stance, and start trolling. If you're going to be childish, don't fight with the big boys.

We don't have an agenda. We just win all the arguments..... can't help it if we're all so smart......

Ughh... I hate this...

You can have as many logical skills as you want, but open-mindedness and creativity play a huge part too.

Not when the typical translation by many people of "Open-mindedness" is "accept that I'm fucking right".

Seriously, way too often logical arguments get replaced by "oh well you just hate God" or whatever bullshit counter-argument the religious come up with. The problem is that the Atheists are the ones that have to be more open-minded, while the religious people are by definition "open-minded". I'm willing to admit that there is a small possibilty that God may exist, there is a logical possibility, are you willing to admit that God might not exist?

What would really help is if you all stopped labeling me. I am not "many people". Here's my idea of someone that isn't open-minded:

john9blue, from an earlier post, wrote:atheists or fundamental Christians or whatever that try to press their irrefutable beliefs on me

There are closed-minded Christians. I can't believe I even have to explain this, you know it already. What I'm saying is that shutting your mind off from God and shutting your mind off from the possibility of there not being a God are both bad. Science is a continuous process... discoveries are constantly being made, and opinions are constantly being revised. I treat God the same way; I never say that he must or must not exist. It's not a hard concept.

It is all about civility. Please tell what I've said or even insinuated about you and I'll withdraw it post haste.

Oh and you were going to get around to actually refuting something I said aren't you? It seems only right after I shot down all of your points. Put your mind at ease though, I'm rarely offended by anything anybody has to say about me. Whether it's stated or implied, I rather enjoy the banter. That's why I have no intention of abandoning the Chatterbox.

Here's one for ya. Why the hell isn't Notre Dame in the Big 10? They play most of our teams. Shit, Michigan could probably use the win this year.

But here you get a big "open-minded" FAIL stamp. When has science ever show evidence of a God? If anything it has shown that everything can and does have an actual explination. Even the creation of life.
I don't think you ment it that way, so I'm not jumping on it, or dogging you or anything.

Also, Snorri is one of the "big boys."

Yeah, CA, I think you misunderstood DM. He was reassuring the outhouse guy that he didn't think you or the co-mods were going to be dictatorial. I understand why you misunderstood; he was doing it in this breezy, pip-pip kind of tone that made me wonder too if he was being sarcastic half the time, but he was on your side.

DM, thanks for taking it so phlegmatically and avoiding getting things off to a bad start.

Yes, it will show up as another usergroup once you're a member. It's currently called the "CC University Coffee-shop" (as you can see in "Usergroups" in your control panel), but we're still deciding on what name to choose

Yeah but flame wars is even more of a magnet for retards than Chatter Box.

Well, okay... but we have no reason to believe that you won't troll people in the new forum. You're saying "I swear I can do the right thing, even though I almost never do it in the current forum, and have shown no sign of stopping". Of course, I can't exactly take you on your word, now can I?

Except that the whole idea behind this forum is the fact that we're supposed to do that. I'd join the forum specifically because I don't want to suffer from all the obnoxious douchebags all the time when I know there are also intelligent people I'd like to debate. I don't go outside of flame wars and start flaming people, and I don't troll outside of Chatterbox (and sometimes GD). Okay, I troll a littlle in some places, but I have stuck with positive commentary in the Map-forum and Callouts.

And really, I find it strange that I'm supposed to prove that I won't troll when you know that I'll be banned if I troll in the discussion-forum. And I find it even more strange that I am the only one who needs to prove it. Why don't you need to prove it? Why doesn't Neoteny need to prove it?

Snorri1234 wrote:I have shown (unlike you) that I can also debate other people who act reasonable without resorting to cheap stuff.

You resorted to using cheap stuff ("unlike you") in the SAME SENTENCE that you claimed that you don't resort to cheap stuff. Sometimes I wonder if you guys use logical fallacies just to see if we can spot them.

Sometimes I do.

But anyway, that "unlike you" comment was actually about the fact that you haven't proven you can debate civilly either. Sure, you don't have any counter-evidence, but neither do you have any positive proof of your debating-skills.
Face it, Snorri - you'll argue with people if there are others on your side, or if it's easy to do so; when it heats up, however, you'll run away from the argument, take your classic "bemused and apathetic" stance, and start trolling. If you're going to be childish, don't fight with the big boys.

Wait what? Since when?

I only start trolling a thread when I've logically refuted stuff only to hear the same exact argument again. Or when I know that person won't listen to reason anyway. (Okay, sometimes I respond with logical stuff for the sheer masochistic pleasure of it.)

What would really help is if you all stopped labeling me. I am not "many people". Here's my idea of someone that isn't open-minded:

john9blue, from an earlier post, wrote:atheists or fundamental Christians or whatever that try to press their irrefutable beliefs on me

Magical. Says nothing about "fundamentalist" atheists but just atheists in general.

It would help if you stopped throwing us all together. ;)
There are closed-minded Christians. I can't believe I even have to explain this, you know it already. Oh I agree. I was just saying that "open-mindedness" is often used as an excuse.

Now now, no need to be impatient.

I've submitted my application and I'm ready to give this organisation a fair chance to consider its merits before coming to a final decision.

Do we know how many (and who) are members yet by the way? Are many of us waiting to be notified?

Well I checked the memberlist but aside from GT it seems basically only christians. Though either DangerBoy got banned (suprise!) or he was excluded from joining anyway.

I guess I'll submit my application too.

Hi folks,

Sorry, for not getting back to everyone immediately. We've had lots of people applying and given that all three mods have to agree on each person it slows things down a bit (we're handling it through pm discussions). The idea right now is to start small as we organize and build the community. So, if we haven't gotten back to you it isn't that you've been denied. It's probably just inefficiency on my part.
