question about truces.

Postby DarthBlood on Sat Sep 27, 2008 4:30 pm

if youre playing a fow game and you want to make a truce with green for example, can you post in the game chat that youre going to try to make a truce with green and privately msg him to ask him to stop attacking your bonus? the reason for this is so other players will find it harder to locate where your terrs are, but its perfectly fair given that you have announced that you will try to make a truce with the player.

I would say so yes, because if you announced where the truce was it would be telling everyone else where your troops are. ;)

No it is not:
Rules Page wrote:Rule #2: No secret diplomacy

Any form of diplomatic discussion between opponents must be posted in the game chat in a language that all opponents understand. Diplomacy includes, but is not limited to: proposing truces, negotiating alliances, and coordinating attacks. Secret diplomacy can be hard to prove, but if you suspect it you should leave the players in question appropriate ratings. If you feel certain about players engaging in secret diplomacy consider reporting them in the Cheating & Abuse Reports forum by posting a new topic.
Any form of negotiation must be in the game chat window.

hmm, can't you be a little circumspect and ask him to stop "attacking the country you attacked the last three rounds" or something like that?

As long as everthing is stated in the game chat, you can do whatever you want.

Was that a reply to my post?

That could work, because otherwise you would be giving away information about the location of yours and your opponents troops and i feel that spoils a game when you are playing with fog of war.

MeDeFe, yes it was a response to your post. If you only say to the other player, "Hey can you stop attacking that territory for a little bit" and that is posted in the game chat, then yes, that it fine. However, if you say that, and then PM them saying "Stop attacking me", that is no longer fine.

Can you say something in chat, then copy and paste the exact thing into a PM to make the chance of them reading it before they take their turn go up? Because a lot of times I find that problem where the person wants a truce, but they attack either way because they read the chat after they take their turn.

I'd say that's fine.

In situations where I'm concerned that the player will fail to read the game chat I post my message to game chat, then PM the player "Please ensure you read the game chat in game 123456 before taking your next turn" and then post to game chat "All players note - PM sent to <player> stating 'Please ensure you read the game chat in game 123456 before taking your next turn' only". That leaves no room for misunderstandings.

I'd think they were spamming if they told the others every time they send a pm telling people to check the gamechat.
