cheating

Postby KoE_Sirius on Sat Sep 27, 2008 7:25 pm

Is it cheating to babysit a speed game that has only just began or actually start that speed game with someone elses account ?
I mean surely it is a secret diplomacy if someone takes over without telling anyone in game chat .

I would say that if, for example, the persons internet cut out, that's fine. If the person is just lazy, then no.

You can, with the stipulation that the account babysitter is not your opponent in any current game and does not start or join new games (except for ongoing tournaments). It is common courtesy to announce in game chat that another player will take your turn(s) during your absence. Furthermore, you should only take another player's turn if they are in danger of missing a turn, not for the purpose of gaining a tactical advantage.

as long as the person babysitting is not the opponent of the person they are playing for, then it is allowed. Furthermore, while it isnt even necessary that the person announce it in game chat even though the babysitter should imo.

Where are you getting this info from, because the changing of a player mid-game is a diplomatic discussion ? A fundamental diplomatic discussion of this sort looks like a definate rule breaker by means of a Secret Alliance between the sitter and the player .Surely all player needs to know .

Rule #2: No secret diplomacy

Any form of diplomatic discussion between opponents must be posted in the game chat in a language that all opponents understand. Diplomacy includes, but is not limited to: proposing truces, negotiating alliances, and coordinating attacks. Secret diplomacy can be hard to prove, but if you suspect it you should leave the players in question appropriate ratings. If you feel certain about players engaging in secret diplomacy consider reporting them in the Cheating & Abuse Reports forum by posting a new topic.

you can ask players outside of the game for help and babysitting is no different as far as receiving a different perspective on the same game. Just because you are getting help doesnt mean that you are breaking the rules and the rules clearly states that secret diplomacy isnt between two different players in the same game.

You may have someone babysit for you in a speed game, just like you may have someone babysit for you in a casual game. However, max,

yes, I actually acknowledged that in one of my earlier posts, however it is not necessary. If it is, please change the wording of that because common courtesy implies that it is polite but not mandatory

Max, nice of you to edit the quote, but you are right, it is a "common courtesy". However, most people feel that this is expected. I know that I would not be pleased if someone had been sitting for another account and did not say anything. As to getting the wording changed, I will work on that shortly. Keep checking that page for a change.
