You could do one of the following:
High Risk: Take over Northern Plains and then hope that he either does not dare to auto your left over 175 or so, or gets bad dice
Low Risk: Wait until the stacks get really high (up into the thousands, probably ten thousands is better), then auto one of his stacks. Since you are rolling 3 dice, and him 2, you have a slight edge which will be noticeable over thousands of rolls, and they should even out themselves after that many rolls to give you a high chance of receiving this advantage.
The high risk will solve the game very quickly, but the low risk will take a really long time to win. But if he decides to pull the first strategy on you, you will have no choice but to auto him.
Also, there are a good deal of neutrals between both of you. If you can take out one or two territories without losing too many men to get yourself a 1 or 2 man extra deploy, he will probably not auto you because by the time he goes through the neutrals to get to you, the armies will be the same, then you will have a higher deploy than him, and after 100 or so rounds.... I think you get my point.
But if he does the above on you... you should probably start doing the same right away so that he does not get ahead of you. If both of you are going for bonuses, he might just give you a little gap to squeeze into by spreading himself too thin.
