Permanent banning and pm's

Postby hulmey on Sat Oct 04, 2008 4:09 pm

I think its really unfair and probably against the law that players banned from the forums are unable to view their pm's. The PM facility is needed, so that players can contact one another for various reasons.

Dont forget we have been told time and time again that the forums are a nice add on for players that pay to play the game!!

So, why do CC continue to treat players in this way? I dont think it's anything technical becuase im quite sure that there must be a work around in this day and age. Please discuss and maybe we can put pressure on the Admins to change this for the benefit of those that do not have a voice!!

They don't have 'a voice' for a reason. I'm assuming you added the 'probably against the law' bit for dramatic purposes.

without rules there is chaos. if a cc played has been properly warned or given a heads up or something and they continue to abuse it, then there must be consequences.

if you are banned, there is no need to use your pm, you are banned, so therefore you can contact your friends still using instant messengers or emails, you dont need to use a cc pm.

Of course there are countless alternatives, but you got to have something to whinge about.

PMs are attached directly to the forum, so getting a forum ban and PM ban go hand in hand. No way to fix that.

Well, it would actually just be a simple forum hack... Not even with phpbb3. Lack made it so that all banned players are put in a usergroup, so all he'd have to do is give that usergroup pm privileges.

no we haven't, that is a bold faced lie. forums are not only for those that "pay to play". anyone that joins CC, premium or freemium, has access to the forums. the forums are a priviledge, not a right. if you break the rules of the forum, you are allowed to still play the games and still contact players/members via personal e-mail. there is no rule against you using your own means of communication once you break the rules, you just can't use PM's. however, your attempt at over dramatization is just ridiculous. it is not "against the law", that is just hilarious... next time, you should use the law and order gong to over dramatize your position. what a ridiculous thread with an even more ridiculous accusation!!-0

i remember when lack posted that he had changed things so banned people could see profiles and people could see banned peoples profiles he distinctly stated that he left PMs off on purpose

EDIT: here it is
lackattack wrote:I changed the way our forum ban works:

Now you can see the profiles of forum-banned members and add them as friend or foe.

Forum-banned members can now join Speed Games (if premium) and access their Control Panel but they cannot use PMs (that is intentional  )

I think it IS against the low. Not literally, of course, but in a deeper, more subtle way.

Well, if you are a (fully) paying customer - CC has an obligation to provide you a comfortable service of internal communication. It's (about?) that simple...

I could proceed, but it's premature. Let's first see whether anybody has reasonable arguments against the bolded statement.

A link to the forum guidelines is on every page in the forum. When making a post, just reading, or even when just entering, it's EVERYWHERE. If you disobey those guidelines, then you have no excuse, even if you do pay for the game, everyone is held to the same standards. You guidelines are the same as mine, and I have given this site $ 0.00. Why is this being complained about again?

Sometimes pms are used in a game to discuss strategy with an ally after an alliance has been declared in chat. This is purely game related and has nothing to do with the forum, so they should get to do that as it could be comproomising gameplay.

Actually, this is purely illegal.

Forum banned members can still use Live Chat if they need to communicate with someone on-site.

it's too bad that pm is the only form of communication possible in the world

as Kramer said, "E-mail, telephones, fax machines, fedex, telex, telegrams, holograms"

I was confused by those rules and actually sent in an eticket asking how to discuss strategy with allies in non team games without other people seeing, and it said you could use msn, email, chat, pm, anything, as long as an alliance was already declared.

It makes sense that permanent banning includes preventing a player from viewing and sending PMs. After all, perma-banning does not serve to protect other members from, possibly life-threatening, spam/trolling/foul language, since consecutive smaller bans could accomplish that. Perma-ban occurs when the powers-that-be decide that they no longer want you to be able to express your opinions on these forums, which is why the purpose of the perma-ban is not fairness, but shutting someone up for good. And, with the notable exception of Mr Intefacer, I would say that it works pretty good.

As has been stated multiple times in this thread, you do not pay to use the forums; note all of the people who have the gray rank symbols next to their names who have posted in this thread.
Premuim Membership Page wrote:In return for your support, Premium Membership earns you the following benefits:

  • Feel that WARM and FUZZY feeling you get from supporting a website that you love
Notice that none of the items on the list mention the forums of any other type of "comfortable service of internal communication."

Yeah. It's absolutely natural, considering Forum as a realm. But there is another realm, we could call it Gaming Space. The later one isn't complete without an internal communication tool. So Lack had to make one, or (more practical) to borrow it from Forum.
If those two realms were both complete and independent, we wouldn't have a problem. But they aren't and we have a problem.

If you properly ban somebody from Forum, you are actually violating his rights in Gaming Space. So CC should improve whether technical or legal construction...
