Server timeouts!

Postby Jippd on Thu Nov 13, 2008 7:06 am

Right now the server is ESPECIALLY bad! Anyone else having problems? I'm having to reload pages 3/4 times per turn trying to navigate this site.

I've been wanting to ask for a long time, but now it has just gotten so unbearable I had to come here. Does anybody else have this problem ever?

Communication with the server has timed out. Wait another 10 seconds?

I get that error message all the time! at least once a game, have to click my games to go out, then click the game again. What a hassle for a pay website.

What is it from? Just this website not having a proper server? Right now its bad nothing is loading. And taking forever takes me ten tries to make one action on this website right now. Can't play a speed game cuz I don't want to risk missing turns.

Hmmm could be? I don't remember if it happened to me before I started using clickable maps. Anyone else ever have this problem?

But I don't get how clickable maps makes the server time out.

And last night it was happening to me when I was using the old attack method, not right clicking via clickable maps.

The timeouts are caused by the browser and not necessarily the server... I certainly get more timeouts when I'm using more of the GM scripts....

Just to point out - that once the game page is loaded - the scripts don't request any data from the server whatsoever and the timeouts are based purely upon the AJAX request - therefore the scripts won't affect these problems in any way...

Although I appreciate it is a cheap and easy way to point the finger elsewhere.

I think yeti's saying that the problems are caused by AJAX, which I always thought was used for cleaning toilets...

Obviously you should try and stick to the whole mapping business instead of making uneducated guesses.

Either the server of the browser.

There are 2 ends of that story - 1 the server and 2 your computer.

The timeout is (say) 30 seconds long - if your PC doesn't hear back in 30 seconds - then it times the request out. - This can be because your request didn't get through in those 30 seconds - or the server didn't reply in those 30 seconds - or the server replied and the reply didn't get through.

Essentially - there is a 66% chance it's you - and a 33% chance it's the server (based on number of elements)

Well that's any easy way to see that it is not a GM script! (I only specified BOB because I'm not sure everyone understands what "scripts" are without an example.

But I know I have a really bad connection, so I have always blamed my timeouts on my own browser. As for everyone else, I guess it must be the server or browser.

I used to have this problem, sometimes as bad as described above. And then my laptop fried. I got a new laptop top, no more timeouts, well very rarely anyway.
