I'll tell you how it was, and how it all came to be... from the beginning...
Although I am sure this is just too many words for you without pictures,
so I'll give it some color and bold highlights to help get you through it...

Originally in CC there was a great division...

This division was made up of Escalating players, and what was then referred to as the lower life forms, the Flat Rate and No Cards Players...

These groups often disagreed on many issues, such as which format requires the higher skill... I would like to take a moment to show definitively why this division exists... you see, Escalating players are Conservative by nature, while Liberals tend to prefer Flat Rate and No Cards... the history of these groups dates back many thousands of years... To better understand this division within CC, one should closely examine the History of Liberals and Conservatives...

The division of the human family into these two distinct branches occurred some 10,000 years ago, a few hundred years after the flood... back when humans coexisted as members of small bands of nomadic hunter/gatherers.

In the single greatest pivotal event of societal evolution, beer was invented. This innovation was both the foundation of modern civilization and also triggered the separation of humanity into its two distinct subgroups... Liberals and Conservatives.

You see, once beer was discovered, it required grain, and that was the beginning of agriculture... Since neither the glass bottle or aluminum can had yet been invented, it was necessary to stick pretty close to the brewery... And that's why villages were formed.

Some men spent their days killing animals to barbecue at night while drinking beer... This was the beginning of the conservative movement.

Other men, who were weaker and less skilled at hunting, learned how to live off conservatives by showing up for the BBQs every night and doing women's work like sewing, fetching and hair dressing... This was the beginning of the liberal movement.

Early liberal achievements included the domestication of cats, invention of group therapy and democratic voting to see how to divide the beer and meat that the conservatives provided. Over time, liberals did not produce anything as they preferred to "govern" the producers and decide what was to be done with the production. Liberal men stopped caring for their women once they discovered that their women had more testosterone than they did. Liberals liked deviant sex and want others to like it too. Their first successful city governments were Sodom, where the first Flat Rate games were played, and Gomorrah, where No Cards games on every conceivable map were played as an open spectacle. Sodomites and Gomorrahites would become hostile if you failed to recognize the difference between them and their games, and this remarkable fact remains true with their decedents to this very day.

Conservatives drink domestic beer. They eat red meat, and still provide for their women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumber-jacks, construction workers, medical doctors, police officers, escalating players, corporate executives, soldiers, athletes, and generally anyone who works productively outside government. Conservatives who own companies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living.

The American cowboy, of course, is your basic, full-bore Conservative Escalating Player. A hundred years ago, an Englishman visiting America was attempting to find the owner of a huge cattle ranch. He rode up to one of the ranch hands, and inquired,

"Pardon me, but could you perhaps tell me where I might locate your master?"

To which the cowboy replied,

"That sumbitch ain't been born yet".

We had more players, there was more of a liberal attitude on the forums and
Hasbro hadn't lowered the legal boom on the maps yet. However, the site got more popular and the influx of assholes drove some good players out, or reduced their activity. Lack recruited mods from the Waffen SS and God forbid now you tangent off topic. The dice still f*ck you over, although it had been " Proven" that they don't, the map drops are still predictable so if you play one map long enough winning becomes more like solving a suduko then playing a game of skill.
You have rabid fanatic supporters of the site that will cuff your balls if you dare voice dissent (see below up coming posts for examples....hell you asked a simple question and one of them came out of left field and chastised you....)
We now have a massive amount of maps which I think is a good thing although some would disagree, and the fees have stayed the same which is another good thing.
Hasbro screwed over the classic map which is bullshit because this site most likely increased risk board game sales by 15% over the last number of years.

But the attitude here isn't as cozy. You have cliques of players who farm or play only each other to maximize point gain, and the forums are stale and repressed.

But I'm here for the speed, and some select tourneys and I play with "The Clean Group" that has weeded out the multies.

So in closing, it's not as good as it was, but It's still worth the ride. And there's always opertunity for positive change, if folks are willing to be part of the solution instead of past of the problem as in any online community.

Ahhh the old days... The ol' story went a little something like this.

The Conquer Cluber's were a group of vaguely avian yellow creatures who lived on a beach. Some players had a green star on their bellies, and in the beginning of CC the presence or absence of a star was the basis for discrimination. Players who had stars on their bellies were part of the "in crowd", while players without stars were shunned and consequently mopey.

In the old day's, a "fix-it-up chappie" named Twill appeared, driving a cart of strange machines. He offered the players without stars a chance to have them by going through his Star-On machine, for three dollars. The treatment was instantly popular, but this upset the original star-bellied players, as they were in danger of losing their method for discriminating between players. Then Twill told them about his Star-Off machine, costing ten dollars. The players formerly with stars happily payed the money to have them removed in order to remain special.

However, Twill did not share the prejudices of the players, and allowed the recently starred Sneetches through this machine as well. Ultimately this escalated, the players were running from one machine to the next,

"until neither the Plain nor the Star-Bellies knew
whether this one was that one or that one was this one
or which one was what one... or what one was who."

Despite his assertion that "you can't teach a player," the players learn from this experience that neither plain-belly nor star-belly players are superior, and they are able to get along and become friends.

So here we are now.

I remember when the original server overheated as we hit 100,000 games and Lack and Twill worked all weekend to get it up and running again... ahhh... those days are long gone...

Really though...having been here since inception essentially, I see a LOT of growth and no down side. The forums always had its share of a-holes and always will...human nature. Having been in my group xigames the whole time, I have only seen the place getting better as we now have over 100 members....plenty of real people to play without fear of multis, cheaters, jackasses or undesireable chat.....

My 2 cents ;o)

I remember when you had to go uphill in the snow both ways when taking a turn. A lifetime membership was only 2 cents but you got a free decoder ring and an Ovaltine coupon too. That was a lot of money back then though; times were tough. I remember when they upgraded from steam to AC electricity for power. Remember how ol' what's his name shorted something out and they had to switch back for a three weeks until the stage brought a new part? They ragged on him for months.
