Influx of newbs?

Postby bomberman760 on Sat Dec 20, 2008 11:46 pm

What the hell is up with this? I started an 8 player game, and it fills with big question marks. Only one other player who has played before. Is this a big coincidence? Does it happen often? Are these multis? Should I shut up and be glad? I guess I'll have to play to see where this leads.

What's farming? Starting a lot of games? I searched and could really get an answer. The settings are all pretty much identical. Regardless of what it is, that many first-time players seems odd to me. I've never seen that in any games I've joined.

EDIT: The only thing I did learn about farming is that you seem to do a lot of it. It's obviously something negative, but your name has come up constantly in the threads with "farming." So WTF is it?

That would make sense. To be honest, it caught me off guard when it even started - I only started one of each map (up to the "Ds") to try new maps. Arms race and classic the exceptions. I was sure I only started one of each.

Farming is basically taking advantage of a map or game settings that aren't very popular on CC. Starting tons of 8 player games with unpopular settings so that tons of new recruits join.
And if you want, put all the regular players that join your games onto your ignore list. So they can't join your games, only new recruits can.
About half of the new recruits deadbeat, then the other half is really easy to beat because the new people don't know the map.

It gets you a ton of points, but lots of people consider it to be 'cheating the system'

Check out this guys list of games. He is an excellent example of what farming is. He plays Circus Maximus, a map that tons of people don't like. Join one of his games, he'll put you on his ignore list.

Ok - now I've got it. I guess my disconnect is not liking escalating spoils games and unlimited fortifications. Many of my games do take a while to fill up. I was unaware of that tactic, but seems kind of pointless. I guess the ranking system actually means that much to some, and now a few other threads make a LOT more sense.

Thanks!

Holy hell - NOW I understand. That also explains a few other threads that went right over my head. Puts the ranks in a whole new light in terms of actual skill vs. manipulating the system.

The hilarious thing is that he seems to be losing quite a few of the games. Against questionmarks.
