chat rules

Postby karel on Mon Dec 22, 2008 12:30 am

Why is their no rules for chat,i think this would be a very good idea so that everyone knows the rules, esp new people.Just a simple answer, don't think it would be to hard for someone here to come up with a set of rules.RE: flaming, trolling etc.........

Seems like to many people do not know the rules for chat..shit wait there are no rules....why?

By not having rules for chat, it means that biased mods can abuse their powers to impress people who they are trying to flirt with. If they imposed a standard set of rules, it would curb their power in the chat room where the tag for banning someone or kicking them out of chat could could no longer be: "being irritating" or "no reason"

If they have no official rules, the rules can be whatever they deem them to be. Seems like an awesome idea to not have rules...lol

max, that was a completely nonfactual, unintellectual post. But good try though.

karel, I agree, more rules need to be in place other than the "Don't created a game in Social" and "Don't Socialize in Callouts"

I have to agree with max, each mod has different rules,it's kinda messed up,should have 1 set of rules in place.wonder if anyone from administration will ever reply or just blow it off, like most things around here.

I have a feeling that rules will be defined for Live Chat at some point.

You guys are completely off basis in your accusations. The Live Chat moderators are not giving you each different sets of rules; what differs between them is their patience. For example, James will warn you between 3 to 5 times before he even kicks you from the channel. InsomniaRed, on the other hand, realizes that you people know the rules, and will only warn you once before a kick. There rules are the same as the boards rules, you just don't listen to them.

And Jeff, if a kid were caught for cheating on his homework, do you think the teacher would just think that he was taught his lesson by being caught, or watch his homework for more cheating? Maybe you should try not flaming and flame-baiting in chat. What a strange idea, I know, but you should try it.

While I don't frequent Live Chat, I would suspect a good rule to follow would be, "Don't be a dink."

You are the one that is wrong. If I were to get kicked for saying a racial slur, you would laugh and say that I deserved it. If the same were to happen to your seemingly online bff/lovers, bigdaddyslim2 or Jeff Hardy, you would cry foul play, attack that moderators reputation, and continue to whine/bitch until the end of time, deeming that mod biased. You are the one who is wrong, you side with your friends no matter what happens to them. They could be banned for being multi's, and you'd attack Fireside Poet and King A.

No, you're an idiot. I stated that the rules are the same, but how each mod and admin handles them is different. Whether or not you get multiple warnings doesn't depend on who you are as a user, but how the mod/admin deals with disciplinary actions.

karel, sounds like you're in love with bigdaddyslim2. To quote a great man, "why don't you two just get a room already"

first, nice flaming, i'd check your inbox in a bit... ahem... secondly, how are the rules the same if one person receives MULTIPLE WARNINGS and others receive NO WARNING? the portion of your statement that i bolded shows that the rules are not the same. if the rules were the same, everyone would be treated the same. that statement of yours is an admission that the rules are not the same for everyone, and are handed out on a whim, as maxatstuy stated, and i hate agreeing with max!! keep flaming kotaro, it really helps the civil discourse over the issue being discussed. did i call you a name? nope. did i prove you wrong? yes. did i show a GLARING falsehood in your statement? without a doubt. and guess what, i did it without flaming you. live chat needs rules, and they need to be posted somewhere so everyone knows what they are.-0

@karel; I see you really want live chat rules
23:50:10 ‹karel› well at least he does not save screenshots and pm them off, unlike others around here

I mean, how dare they enforce the rules? BASTARDS!

owen, where's your proof that this happens?
When two people start fighting in Live Chat, like always happens, the mods always ask for the two people to stop (this happened to me and Jeff about a week back, roughly, my whole biological day telling thing is off by a few weeks). In the instance of me and Jeff, when the mods said stop, I decided to take my turns in games. When I came back, I saw that Jeff had continued, and gotten a kick.

Try reading the shiny things under "Rules" tab, and you won't get introuble in Live Chat?

As for max, owen, I'm sure you remember your days of high school. When/if you had been sent to detention for fighting, did the teachers tell themselves that you had learned your lesson, or did they watch you to make sure you and others weren't fighting anymore? And what would happen if you had been fighting a 2nd time? Suspension. Same rules apply; you do something once that's kickable, they know who you are, and watch you closer for more problems.

There seems to be a little bit of chat about the 'consistancy' of how live chat is moderated. I would like go into defending how live chat is moderated.

Ever since I started taking an intrest in live chat I have noticed nothing but fairness in the live chat regulations and moderation. Whenever someone is chat has been disiplined I have noticed that whether a chat mod veteran like James Vasquez or a newer chat mod like InsomniaRed, the dicipline has always been generally fair.

You could argue (If you really wanted) that disipline can from time to time is inconsistant (as argued on many levels of CC moderartion). To be honest thou, moderation isn't an automated process. All mods on this site are real people with different attitudes and ways of thinking. this leads to differents styles of moderating and different standards of disipline. is consistancy perfect? No, is disipline generally fair? I would argue yes.

The bottom line is I think live chat may be a little inconsistant from time to time, but I have always felt that it is far.

I stated that each user is given an equal chance to obey the rules; when they establish a pattern of behavioural deviancy, they are treated as rule-breakers should; with suspiscioun. You're stating that each mod has a personal vendetta against someone else and will discriminate against that user whenever they want.

no you didn't, and no i didn't. but nice try. what you just said is in no way what you said before:

different rules by different mods for different people. if you are new to live chat or a veteran to live chat, the warning process should be exactly the same, period.-0
