I mean, honestly, do you expect to win every game? I don't see what the big deal is about losing some of your games.

And considering 1% of CC goes to the forums, and 99% of the people have a rating of above-average to excellent, and that this is the internet, hence full of lazy people... no.
Okay, start a thread, fine. But it is not going to do anything, so don't get your points up.
Here is how I rate people:

Here is how I rate people:
I did say "someone", clearly indicating, (I thought) that I wasn't going to be doing it.![]()
My rating method is a bit unusual too but it works for me. Everyone, except the occasional jerkwad, gets 5 stars, the jerkwads get 1 stars. The exception to this rule is that if a player previously gave me less than 5 stars I give them the rating they gave me instead of the 5 stars they would have gotten. Pretty bizarre eh?

This is why the rating system is horrible: people like you.
You give everyone "excellent" unless they did something bad. Because of people like you, everyone gets an average between 4.5-5.0, and thus it is meaningless, since .1% is about one 8 man game of 1 stars.
The Neon Peon wrote:A problem is not solved by contributing to it.
You say you want to get rated 5 stars, so you rate others 5 stars. Okay, but the whole point is to be above average. the current average is probably about 4.7, so how good is 4.7? not very, it is just average.
So, you try to get yourself a 5 start rating by rating others with 5 stars on default, which makes your 5 star rating, if you achieve it meaningless, you give it to everyone else.
You say the ratings system is not perfect, so you are just going along with it, because it will never be perfect... for some reason, I hear this argument use to justify people's ratings 95% of the time in threads like this. Now, if all those 95% of the people were so great minded, they thought just like you... the ratings system would be just like it is. But if at least one of those people chose to use it as intended. Who says people don't think alike?
That kind of philosophy is horrible. The system is not perfect because of the 5% 1 star across the board for everyone, and the 95% of the 5 stars across the board people. You have more impact on it than that 1 star guy.
The Neon Peon wrote:You are not getting my point at all. The reason ratings are meaningless is because of people like you.
You talk of a perfect world, and that you are going along with the imperfect flow... well guess what? so is everyone else. If all of you people who think that the system is messed up by default stop going with the flow, and decide that you are going to be that one person out of everyone who uses the system properly...
I think the system will magically change to almost perfect.
For some reason, the philosophy that you are going to use it correctly when the system is correct... I fail to see the logic.
Stop pinning the blame on others and do something about it. If everyone with your mentality did just that, then the system would be 99% perfect.

The Neon Peon wrote:You still do not understand what I am saying, so let me put it in very simple words:
Rating system = bad right now
Some people (Small %) make it good
Large % make it bad
You make it bad
You point out those small % of good people and show that they do not change
You refuse to make it good because that small % could not make it good
Rating system continues to be bad
Simple enough?

If you see someone who has 4-5 stars for over 90% of their feedback, do you just assume the 1 star ratings are the result of someone being a jerk rather than the player earning the low rating?

Well I don't wish to argue. But please don't put words in my mouth. I'm not blaming anyone. You yourself have not gone with the flow, as you put it, and yet the systems has not magically changed to almost perfect. I imagine there are others too that have chosen to not go with the flow , and yet the system appears no closer to magically changing to almost perfect.
Sometimes in life you just have to accept when it's best to float with the current instead of wearing yourself out swimming upstream. I don't believe that if I suddenly change my ratings method that it will have any magical effect either. All that will happen is people will feel slighted when I rate them average instead of excellent. I don't want to make people feel bad, and I am not capable of leading a magical ratings revolution. So we both choose our way of dealing with it. I float in the river downstream and have fun doing it with the others who appear to be having fun. You choose to stay out the water all together.
And we see a few others swimming furiously upstream only to be swept away by the strong current. There are no magic beans to be found.
In summary though: I'm not blaming anyone. I do not know of anything I can do about 'it' that would be effective. I don't perceive that your chosen alternative has been very effective either, so I challenge you, as you did me, to do something about it. I don't believe in magic.
