People in america generally came from europe and those same people invented american football. At first it was pretty much rugby, but they decided it could be more violent if one wears pads. As it became more popular and guys started getting bigger and faster, the use of pads increased as injuries did as well. Rugby guys, are tough, raw, banged up skinny, bony guys. they are like the rough version of soccer. but its not football, not really comparable. Football has harder hitting, more complex plays, and simply different rules. With rugby, everyone needs excellent stamina for running around.

Any anyway, if a team is paying a guy 10 million a year, they are probably going to want maximum padding to prevent an injury to their million-dollar player, dontcha think? Anyway, enough people get hurt in football as it is.

Yeah, sure, that 350lb blob of fat covering the QB is probably in the best shape of his life.

Fat people don't make it in professional rugby because: 1: They don't get a 5 minute rest between each play, 2: every player on a rugby pitch runs constantly to keep up with the play and 3: In rugby your fat guys don't get to waddle off when the defending is done.

And btw, I'd love to see a QB face the play without his girly padding. They cry hard enough when they get hit WITH pads.

Here's a short video of some of the recent hits in Australian league rugby. http://www.break.com/index/rugbyhits.html

Rugby guys skinny and bony? Ha. You're an idiot. Rugby players have to do everything.. tackle, pass, run, kick. We're muscular because we have to take and make hits, we're fast because we have to run for 80 minutes, we're dextrous because we have to pass and dodge and we're HARD because we don't wear padding.

Here's a clip of two New Zealand wingers. I guess you'd call them "wide receivers", and in your sport they'd be slight and speedy.

Your football is soft compared to rugby, and dull as hell when compared to our football. It's got nothing, which is why 5 billion people love our football, and not even all of one country loves yours.

it is so funny that you say rugby players are skinny. some of them are about 21 stone and 6ft 7inches. also to call footbal players gay and pansies is so stupid i would put any of your american sportsmen (even boxers) against the likes of roy keane, vinny jones, duncan ferguson, stuart pearce, claude makelele and many many more, who are hard as f*ck and could kick the shit out of any of them. also from rugby league you have some loonies there like barry mcdermot. keith senior and adrian morley. i do not think you would call any of these pansies, and live to tell the tale.

you say football has no strategy at all, that is why if your getting beat you can bring on a centre forward to push on and try and get an equaliser. or if your winning and want to shut up shop you take of a centre forward and put on a defender or midfielder to tighten up the defense.

saying that we do not have armies in europe is so stupid, for fucksake how many of your fucking ary kill other nato troops or their own troops with friendly fire. how many nato troops are european, half of them.
when we use to go to war, it was not to stop communism like you tried in korea and vietnam (good job on both of these fronts).

back to football i would like to finish of with saying i use to watch basketball with the likes of the shaq and dennis rodman and the likes. i use to watch american football in the mid to late 80`s (washington redskins, john riggins i liked) but for a 1 hour game, that last 3 1/2 hours is just to much. this all started with that prick in the white suit coming on a thread about the english premiership and slagging it of. now i do not mind americans i am part of a clan (gladiators of sport) that is mainly all americans, i have a laugh with quite a few of them on the forum. so please do not start having a go on the sport most of the world love on our threads.
THANK YOU

People from England really don't get (American) Football, and people from America don't get Rugby.

I play both. Played for the Devon youth teams, and I now play Football for the University of Portsmouth Destroyers and have started training with the Southern Sundevils.

Football did come out of rugby, but it came out of Rugby League, hense the downs system and all that sort of stuff. To a certain extent, the person who said if they wore pads they could hit harder is correct, it allows for different techniques.

For the guy calling QB's girly or whatever he said, in out first game this season our QB got caught by a strong side blitz. He snapped both bones in his leg and dislocated his ancle, how about you try and stand in front of that? Both of these sports hurt, just one is about a burst of power, and the other involves indurance. My personal prefrence at the moment is rugby, but I have played that since I was young. Couldn't pass up the chance to play something new.

If you want hard hits, you can either watch the hit on Reggie Bush, or something by Trevor Leota, both provide them.

Obviously, its american!

I don't see much point in this argument. There is loads of world issues like terrorism, global warming and poverty, and we are arguing about which sport is best?! LOL but if anyone asks, i like soccer :)

Ok Im Canadian so no one can call me an american prick or anything from europe. Yes i love my football, find it interesting to watch and fun to play. But i have also played soccer for my school. Im not that good in it but soccer does require some skill.

For soccer, you need stanima and skill in kicking the ball. It takes alot more skill to kick like european soccer. My friend has played soccer since he was a kid and loves it and wants to try and make it into some type of soccer league but he still can't kick like those people. Yes he can kick half a field and such but to get those curves on the ball requires skill and lots of practice, other than that soccer is pretty basic. (I got nothing against soccer)

I prefer football over soccer cause i find it more interesting to watch. Football requires a different skill. You have to be in shape and strong as hell, also be able to run for some distance at a time. No there isn't 5 min breaks between each throw like some people say. Its like 2 min maximum and usually not even that, just like 30 seconds. Yes football players need padding due to the hits they take. I swear the people who love rugby i got nothing against you but i believe if you put a rugby guy vs a american football guy, the american would win due to the power he has during the small time frame. Those are major hits football players take and look even with the padding they get injured, just shows how much power is in the hits. And it takes skill and timing is everything in football to be able to throw or run the ball. You out by a second and you could get crushed by a defender.

For rugby yeah they take some hard hits and make hits but still its over a long period of time so they need stanima, also you don't have 300 pound people making those hits against you...

So yeah i think each of the sports take a certain skill but americans and europeans are blind or just determined to try and make it look like their sport is the best. Soccer is fun to play but gets boring after a while to watch. Football is fun to play and i find fun to watch cause i know the game. So its just different countries opinions. So overall i stand in the middle of you people who argue back and forth. Even though i prefer football over soccer or rugby.

Who the f*ck brought up rugby? I thought this was between the two footballs.

But I see where the europeans are going. They realized that everyone in soccer is a prissy bitch, so they had to cower behind the sport they thought had the strongest athletes.

And to that idiot that said that the QB was a sissy little bitch, The american quarterback is probably one of the smartest athletes in the world. People like Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, Tom Brady, John Elway, and others probably have enough mental capacity to remember pi to the 1000 digit. These people have to remember thousands of plays, and be able to recite any one of them at will. And btw, the heaviest QB in the league might push 250 lbs. the rest are around 200.

Those pads keep them from killing eachother. Men would die every week if not for that protection. When the NFL was first formed in 1920, it was not uncommon for deaths to occur, though the men were smaller then, so they only happened ever 2-3 years, but they still happened. Imagine what would happen today, if 220 lb runningbacks kept getting hit by 300 lb lineman with no pads on. Or the QB getting tackled by blitzers. There's a reason they play only one game a week. That is all the human body can endure.

You Nobhead yes you,,,,,,, Fucking pads

Rugby, thats a contact sport and those boys play for a whole game not 3 mins out of 5 hours

ur ignorance & stupidity is really starting 2 piss me off, i play football & rugby & i have 2 say that rugby is alot easier on the bones, muscles, neck, & chest
football players wear shoulder pads, thigh pads, helmets, & high schoolers wear knee pads
when u get tackled by just a plain shoulder ur body can absorb the hit pretty easily, but when u get hit by a hard shoulder pad it goes right to your bones. 3 years ago a kid on my football team died cuz he locked his knee 2 make a juke & got hit in a leg with the person tackling hims helmet...shattered his platella & femur so his body couldnt produce enough blood & he died during the surgery
those blogs of fat run 40 meters in 4.3 seconds
& the wr's & cb's run it in under 4 secs
next time u make a remark about a sport & u have never played it, keep ur mouth shut

You think you dont get hurt in Rugby? Try to get up after being tackled by Martin Johnson(shame he dusn play anymore) or any of the other international players. American Football requires very little fitness. No stamina needed at all(2 minute breaks after everything they throw a ball, like wtf?!?!?), very little speed in most the players (Henry, Rommadahl, Eto'o, Owen, Toure could all pwn American Footballers in sprints), no flexibility as acrobatic maneuvers to make stuff look good just dun happen in American Football. Once thing you do need is patience, because the game just drags on forever. At least in football you know its not going to be much longer then 90 mins(about 5 mins of injury time is normal).

For the idiots who think football is boring, you think pretty much 6 billion people will follow a boring game? Its the worlds most popular game for a reason. Very easy to understand, almost unlimited skill involved, a lot of strategy at professional level, and because of the excitement of the game. You think only Europeans celebrate football goals and get exiting during matches? Try watching a few more matches involving African/South American/Australasian teams.

Finally, the World Cup last year produced a culmative total of 28 billion viewers. Every professional American Football match in a whole season added together will not even beat that total. American Football is popular in about 2 countries. Football is popular in over 150 countries. The facts speak for themselves.

i never said that u dont get hurt in rugby, i broke a kids collarbone a couple weeks ago, & trust me, football is much more tiring, u have fight a constant battle just 2 take a couple of steps. & football doesnt have as many acrobatic moves as rugby, rugby is more of a finesse sport than football, thats y i think its more fun 2 play pickup games with it

Try being alive after being tackled by Shawne Merriman

American Football requires very little fitness.

lol, your gay

No stamina needed at all(2 minute breaks after everything they throw a ball, like wtf?!?!?)

A max of 45 seconds after every play dipshit

but yeh football has a lot of names

Football, Rugby Football, Aussie Rules Football, Hocky Foootball(?)
