I didn't bother watching the video, but I know the guy isn't alone in saying that Japan is in deep shit. The damaged nuclear plants alone will most likely cause damage that goes into the trillions. (People will have to be relocated from their homes permanently and compensated, Japanese exports and production are already suffering and it will only get worse.) Tepco will never be able to pay that and the most likely outcome is that the government steps in, takes over the company and foots the bill. This will of course mean that Japan's already sky-high national debt goes into the astronomical, the interest they'll have to pay will go the same way, forcing the government to massively cut spending on everything in an economy that's been sluggish for 2 decades now or default on its debt, possibly both. Either will hurt badly enough that an economic collapse is possible.

As the world's 3rd largest economy, Japan would pull many others with it if it falls.

I wouldn't put a date on any of it, but it's not that far out.

maybe the fall of Japan's economy (Lord willing it won't happen) will bring everyone one step closer to global currency. If we all had a global currency, Japan's disaster may not hurt as much... so how. Ah, man, I forgot the connection between the two. But somehow a global currency may be better fit to withstand such a disaster.

The way the Euro has stabilized the European Economic Community?

A global vehicle currency other than the US dollar is something I can get behind. A single global currency controlled by a central bank... not so much, to put it mildly.

Buy stock in July, if you think the economy will collapse. Global currency is is a HORRIBLE idea. You would be giving one central organization power over the world economy.

Buy AFTER the crash, then sell it when the market recovers. ;)

Won't work. there won't be capital to return on the short sale at that time.
