Perhaps your contrast or brightness on your monitor needs to be adjusted?
sure I can always change them. but I have it set where all the other maps look good to me...and this one doesnt. its just an opinion.

The XML will read

Player attacks Plains 1 from Swamp 1
Pllayer attacks Midlands 5 from Forest 2
Player deploys 3 armies on East Ward 4
Player deploys 3 armies on the Throne
Player fortified Outer Wall 1 from Plains 3
Player fortified Tunnel 1 from Great Hall 5

I dont think it will be confusing at all.

awesome, was just making sure. looks great!

both those photos are in the wrong perspective for this map, and we wouldn't want to mix perspectives. also the plains is much too close. I have changed all the textures more than once and think they are fine at the moment. that seems to be the consensus.

although i will add a bog or something to the swamp tomorrow.

ok... i fixed the tent a bit, but unfortunately that is just the way those tents looked back in the day, all colorful and such.

also added some bogs to the swamp.

what needs to be done to get this into the final forge?

Well lets see, I've been watching the creation of this map, and it's been interesting!

I wish I had more time, so for now I'll comment on a few random things, in no particular order other than my thought process:

The black line surrounding the Gate Bridge seems slightly out of place, probably due to its crispness. Nothing else in the map feels like that.

The Throne is a little pixely, compared the to softness of the rest of the map.

I've a minor concern about being able to distinguish the colors for the various wooded/swamp/midlands areas in the legend. But maybe I just need to look at it a little more, and get a better feel for it all!

I love the general feel you have going, especially in the Castle, in the plains, and the river area. Plains is pretty nice also. Visually speaking, comparing it to the rest, the Tunnel and the Swamp and the Wooded areas seem a little off kilter.

I also love the use of other shaped army shadows, fun and makes sense for the map. Eventually we'll work on making those all centered the best we can.

I'll be back to comment further.

Changes:
1. gate changes
2. throne less aliased
3. trees are 'softer'

Im not too concerned about the legend and colors, even if some are similar or dark, the areas are visual representative of themselves. no one is going to hunt all over the map for the Forest like they might for Kamchatka.

I like the tunnel a lot, i think it fits well. and the swamp, well, i dunno, its a swamp. i suppose the problem with approaching a map with realism is that everyone has their on interpretation of a swamp.

I really like the new perspective. I'm glad you decided to give it a try, the poll suggests it was worth the effort. :D

I have a couple of minor concerns. One being the difficulty in distinguishing between continents. I find it next to impossible to seperate Forest from Wood Camp. At first glance, the same applies to the East and West Ward. You've also left behind some of your brown tiles texture in West Ward... the corner of 1.

I'm not sure the new perspective is doing your tent any favours. Would it maybe look better with some sort of gradient to try and add depth?

Keep up the good work.

woods camp is in the log wall... its a bit darker than the forest but its really the only thing on the map that could be the woods camp.

ill fix those tiles.

yeah that tent is becoming a pain, i added some shadows but i see what i can do with some gradients or something.

I understand that, others may not though. The contrast you had previous to the perspective changes was good.

How many territories do you have?

sorry, names will not work for two reasons

1. the territories are much smaller than traditional countries, making a name like "Eryndithl" for an area the size of my back yard quite ridiculous.
2. There is not enough space, especially in the fortress, for area names.

1. They needn't have country names like "Eryndithl", just descriptive names like "North Camp" or "Swamp Landing" or "Deep Forest" or things like that.
2. Then have short number/letter labels inside the fortress and longer names outside. Mixing it up will make it much easier to find things and use the game menus without making mistakes. There is a lot of unused space around the fortress though, I think names could work there too (the name doesn't have to fit entirely inside the territory borders!)

Let's hear some more excuses!

that would make things cluttered, espeically in the fortress and ESPECIALLY on the small version of the map.

Ot could work outside the fortress but it might get redundant, coming up with 7 different ways to label "plains"

I agree with EvilOtto.
While I understand why mibi doesnt want to have proper names for things, I do think they make a map SO much easier to play.
As for the new perspective, It looks great. Well done.
With the tent issue, what about replacing it with siege equipment? Like a catapult or trebechet? It is a "siege" map after all.

Thats a good idea Teya....Lets c what it looks like with a catapulat instead of a tent....Also in the forest camp, maybe you could reduce the amount of trees and put a few tents there...Those Indian looking tents might do the trick.

As for names, i dont think you need names at all. This is not a map like Classic or Middle Earth, this is a battle ground!!!!!

the more i look at the tent, the more i like it.... i added some shading on the top to keep the shadows consistent. Im not a fan of siege equipment there because you would have a catapult or something and it would have no functionality, you couldn't use it as a catapult, which would be a let down. a tent is better, its a camp, camps have tents.

the variation between forest and wood camp is more, this looks better. also i like the woods camp. tents are not needed, the smoke rising from the trees is good enough for your imagination, you can even barely see the glow from the camp fires on the surrounding trees.

ward tiles fixed.

personally, i think this is ready for the forge.
