Yeah, to be honest, even after you play around with the settings, it's not exactly smooth, but Daggerfall is just a massive game- plenty to do if you get in to it.

I've been meaning to get a game like it for the PC, but haven't researched any new games enough...

Can't speak much for new games, but I've had some good times playing a lot of the classics that I never got a chance to play as a kid. A Game Boy Advance Emulator will get you access to all the old Final Fantasy games, and more. Apart from that- I've been replaying Deus Ex and Baldurs Gate 2, both just excellent games.

Whoa! Thanks! I downloaded them and the emulator but haven't played 'em yet

If you play daggerfall, make sure you change the controls so that you can turn/look around with your mouse and move with the WASD keys. Also set up your character using the questions instead of the presets and make sure the king gave you the obsidian blade. Otherwise the first dungeon is hell.

I sort of like the old unfriendly games though.

Deus Ex is an excellent game. Deus Ex 2 is also pretty cool, despite some bad design choices and general dumbing down of the game.

I tried to play Daggerfall, just couldn't get into it. It's way too dated for me.

Didn't want to recommend Daggerfall to peeps- it's a good game if you can get into it, but if you can't it's just a slog through tough controls. But yeah, Deus Ex is one of my favourite games. I've not heard anything good about Deus Ex 2 though, although that's mostly from reading reviews- don't think I've spoken to someone who played it.

I recommend giving it a try. Even despite the negatives, it's cool because you get to continue on the same general story line...sort of. Some characters from the first one return, you'll recognize them when/if you play, I won't spoil it here. I would recommend (assuming you have nothing against pirating) downloading a torrent for it. At least to try it out. Then if you like it, you can go buy it (if you're really feeling bad about pirating a 10ish year old game).

As for Daggerfall, I tried playing it a while back. Even with messing with the controls to make them more similar to Morrowind, the graphics alone do it for me. It's just too old for me to really enjoy. Shame too, the depth and size of the game warrant praise, if only the gameplay were better...

I started with Morrowind on my xbox and that was probably one of the hardest games to play, but with one of the best storylines.
I got Oblivion and it improved gameplay improved immensely though I was upset that they got rid of many of the factions you could join, and the storyline wasnt as immersersive, though they increase the dick around element tenfold
Skyrim has been crazy fun for me so far, started off a little slow but I knew it would get better and now its like crack. Im still not sure how I feel about eliminating birthsigns and attributes, hopefully there are more factions to join then what Ive seen so far. And my only other quive ris they got gid of more skills. But the gameplay, graphics, and anything else I can think of are amazing, duel wielding is a blast and I enjoy how they altered the leveling up process.
Im still not that far in the main storyline, but with the 30+ hours of gameplay Ive done so far, I am beginning to wreck shop by being the dark elf with all my perks going into archery, sneak, one handed, and destruction

I just ran into my first real bug in the game. I was happily playing for about three or four hours, when I decided to go on a long foot journey from White Run to WinterHold. About half way through my journey, my magic quit working. I was ambushed by an assassin, and I could not pull up any spells. Luckily, I had Janessa the Dark Elf rogue to help me out. The game is playing very well for the most part. NOTE: If you run into a band of mountain giants...go around...WAY around!

so you raised your hands but the magic didn't appear in them?

it's a graphical glitch, i think you can still use it, if not then put your hands down and try it again

I don't know if I could still use my magic or not (I didn't risk it, I just saved and turned the game off for a while...I figured that was my cue to give the gaming a break!). I know that when I tried to bring up my magic, my hands would come up briefly, but no flames would appear; and when I tried using the magic, it would make a weird, soft noise and I could kind of see invisible fire (like heat waves) coming from my character where my hands would be.

It was weird, needless to say.

I am still determined to kill a giant. I ran into one on my way to Winterhold, I thought I could take him...I thought wrong. I need to increase my damage with my magic, I guess. You can hit and run for a little bit; but eventually the giant will catch up with your maneuvering and hit you once with his club. All your health disappears and your character is tossed so high into the air that you can see the curvature of the world almost!

The Dragons have been easier to kill than the giants!

Yeah, giants are HARD to kill. The only way I've managed to do it so far (level 17) is by climbing/jumping to an elevation where they can't get at me and then sniping them with spells. Same thing with Spriggan Matrons, I ran into one of those once so far, and I was really glad there was a sheer cliff between us with me having the higher position. And those goddamned Sabre Cats, and the bears... 120 damage in one hit. I've got an idea though, dual-wielding Novice-level destruction spells with the Impact perk, the mana cost should be manageable and if it works the target will be permanently staggered and won't even get to counterattack. Of course the method fails if there's more than one target.

What's with all the wussy wizards and shapeshifters? Doesn't anyone use a decent warhammer to run around and smash things?

It worked for me on everything and everybody in Oblivion... I had a bounty of $200,000+. Had to dodge arrows and swinging blades of City Guard while "conversing"* with the NPCs.

*"Rumors?" "Place A?" "Derpadderpalurp" isn't "conversing." I'm still forever longing for dialogue similar to Fallout and Fallout 2's.

FYI, Impact and novice-level spells appear not to work in conjunction.

Skyrim is by far the better RPG at the moment. DragonAge was pretty good, but I think Skyrim is better. It is a HUGE world, and you will wander around for an hour or more looking to fulfill quests, only to find another quest that interests you.

Warhammers and Battleaxes come in real handy when you want to get in close with another wizard and such...otherwise, I enjoy just using fire spells or Bow and arrows from a distance to snipe out pesky enemies.

I have Oblivion, but I just started playing it when I received Skyrim...I am hooked on Skyrim at the moment and really have no observant opinion on Oblivion.

SKyrim plays somewhat the same as Oblivion...but you will enjoy leveling up and creating your character according to your level ups. Do you want a thief, mage, or warrior type of character? Do you want to mix thief and mage? Warrior and thief? Skyrim seems to be open towards what the individual envisions his/her character to be. Overall, the character can do it all (magic, thief, wizard), but to what extent and power is up to the individual.

Currently, I decided to focus on Mage/Thief High Elf with my primary focus on magic. So far, I am enjoying this combination.

I've just played The Lost Spires mod for Oblivion.

I highly recommend it. A new guild - The Archeology Guild. http://www.lostspires.com/ Everything it says on the site is accurate. If anything, it doesn't say enough.

Top rated mod on Planet Elder Scrolls. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/f ... livionmods
