RPGs are only good for people that like to get into the role-playing. It's like reading a book, but you are the main character and the hero. When I play shooters, I don't let my mind wander and role-play that I'm the dude on the screen. Even when I play games like the Half Life games, I don't role-play. The character is given a personality by the game. But with RPGs, you can imagine the thoughts of the character...you have enough choice to form the personality of the character...you can become the character...or rather, you can make the character become yourself...
That's what I enjoy about RPG games.
I think I am in semi-agreement with Prowler. Creepy sounding sentence.
It's been a while since I remember the last role playing game I really enjoyed. The Sims?! Oregon Trail 2?! Ha, in very limited role playing-adventure gaming ways. Maybe King's Quest of ancient yore? My eclectic mix of games I own and still play are mostly oldies from the early 2000's to the 90's.

It's not that they don't hold up today. They are still the same great games they used to be (the older one's, anyway). The newer one's aren't really RPG's, so that's not really a fair statement for you to make.

But again...modern RPG's aren't true RPG's. If you don't like the slower paced RPG's, go play an action game. There are plenty of those out there. I don't see why those of us that prefer true RPG's have to get shafted just so the rest of you people can have another fucking action/adventure game.
FFS, the gaming industry is going downhill. I think I'm losing my faith in humanity. (Ha, like there was any left...)
You know, I think I said the same thing when Adventure Games started to go away. One of all time favorite games still is the Secret of Monkey Island and the immediate follow-up LeChuck's Revenge, before the series got taken over as was remastered.
