What boosted Civ V a bit more above Civ 4 vanilla was the more interactive AI and those city-state barbarian/independent civs. The AI wasn't nearly as stupid as vanilla Civ4, which for me makes civ4 not as enjoyable.

The concept of fighting on Civ V is superior, but in practice it was too off-balance. E.g. one properly trained samurai can level a city with several units in it...

I'm not sure why a few in here are obsessing about Civ 2... ARE THEY INSANE?! yes.

Just do it. Seriously, trust me. Oh, and play MAX, not MAX 2. MAX is the superior version.

You will be thanking the $5.99 you spend on this for years.

Hmm...I don't know. I've never played Dune or Dune 2 (I don't even remember seeing them ever).

They were basically like old school Command & Conquer. Good games.

Was Command & Conquer (I've never played them either) turn-based or simultaneous-based? That, for me anyway, is a leading factor in enjoying MAX.

Real-time strategy.

On a separate note, have you ever played Steel Panthers? It's turn based...I have a feeling you would enjoy it. Steel Panthers 3 is my favorite of them all.

I have played the original Steel Panthers and, in fact, still have it. I did not realize there were sequels to it.

My favorite tank game is Panzer General II, a truly wonderful tank game with a thriving current community.
