Robert Heinlein fans

I know there's a few of us in here.
I just wanted to boast a bit.
I'm most of the way through filming my first lead role in a movie*
It's called "Deathclock".
It's based on Heinlein's first-ever short story, Lifeline,and I play the part of Dr Pinero.
It's being very artily done in b&w - more than anything else it resembles a lost episode of "Twilight Zone".

We will film the final bits (blue-screen, pretend background, the only special effects in the piece) next month


*OK OK, it's just a student movie - some guy at NYIT is doing his final project for his degree...
If it's impressive enough it may be shown at various festivals.

My dad had a bunch of books in the garage. I was a reader at a young age and saw some books with cool covers.
I have been reading Heinlein books since I was a teenager. I haven't read all of them, just the ones he had and I have read them multiple times.

There are quite a few others, but those were my favorite.
That is really cool getting to be in a movie and I want to see it too.

Heinlein is great.

I read this story in an anthology book with a bunch of his stories. The notes on Lifeline were that it was Heinlein's first story, he wrote it to win a short story contest. He didn't send it to the magazine that was running the contest though, he sent it to another and made $70. Heinlein said that after this he was done with honest work and would write instead.

I've read just about all of his work. In fact, I just finished reading The Puppet Masters just last week or so.

When it's done and if you can provide a link to watch, I'd like it very much. Lifeline was a good story.

You have some of his best there, especially "Citizen", one of his lesser-known. he wrote about 40 books altogether,I would advise avoiding The Number of the Beast and Us - the Future, otherwise they rangfe from good to delightful.

Final filming should be on Dec 21st - I don't know how long it will take to edit after that. I told the producer it was a good start, we should now do everything else Heinlein wrote...
He promised that if he ever does Stranger in a Strange Land I can be Jubal Harshaw (though I guess I'd have to shave my head)

Also, as a public service, the following books have two versions available these days - the one as originally published, and the other a sort of "Director's Cut", the version he wrote that was cut down for various reasons. These were all published after his death in the 80's.

Yes, Mistress is among his best (my personal favorite is still Citizen of the Galaxy)
I feel that Fear no Evil and Time Enough for Love (though I've read them both many times) could both have done with a little editing - too long for the material.

If you've not seen Requiem it's worth a look (library?). it reprints the story of that name, a bunch of tributes and stuff, and some uncollected bits and pieces of Heinlein.

OK just heard from the writer/producer of "Deathclock"- there was a long wait on this one: he found his computer wasn't good enough to do the editing. Now he has a new computer, and I'm meeting up with him to record some voiceovers for certain cuts from one scene to another. I don't think it'll be generally available unless the Heinlein estate agree, but I'm sure I can share it with individuals once its ready.

Incidentally, we're doing the voice thing just before he comes to see me perform my standup on Aug 17th at 6pm at The Stand in NYC, as detailed elsewhere. Love to see some of you cc'ers in attendance. This one is a little more expensive at $20, but there's no drinks min.

Oh and in case I hadn't mentioned it before, Asimov was a toilet-head.
