Norway's mass killer whines about prison life.

If that's all he complains about, then it would be downright unpleasant for him in the US prison system.

But only 21 years for slaughtering over 70 innocent people, most of whom were kids? I think Norway needs a good hard look at a few things in their sentencing laws.

I can understand his complains about strip searches. No need to several times a day strip search a guy who spends his life in a cell.

I think it's good to remember that a country in a lot of ways is defined by how it treats it's prisoners. The US model is not the prefered one lol. Norway is a lot better place to live in than US and I prefer their treatment of prisoners.

Agreed,it's not as if the US system acts as an effective deterrent judging by the truly enormous prison population there..

This would act as a deterrent for me.

21 years for over 70 killings, this makes me angry. This guy should never be allowed to walk free again.

Makes me angry too,as does the piece on prison rape. This should never happen on that scale in a civilised country.

Not only does the US have a bigger prison population than any of the other countries you might reasonably compare it with, it also has a much higher rate of violent crime.
So perhaps copying the US model isn't exactly the best idea.

A system that is supposed to work for 10,000 people needs to be modeled based on what works best for the 9,990 people that are relatively "normal", not for the 10 insane nutjobs out of the 10,000.
The fact that it offends our animal need for revenge that the 10 insane nutjobs get off easy is not a good reason to change the system for all the 10,000 people.

Perhaps you would get angry less often if you checked out some facts before jumping to conclusions. 21 years is the longest sentence allowed by Norweigan law but the term can be extended as often as thought proper , the guy is unlikely to be released for a very long time if ever.

The guy is also an attention shore. He'll hitch about cold coffee for the purpose of enraging the public. Isolation and being made irrelevant to his perceived cause might be a pretty grueling punishment for his mindset. Lock him up for twenty or thirty years and then just shoot the asshole.

This mass murderer case, the worst in history ever, is our acid test. What society are we? What society do we want to be?

Lots of Norwegians want the most inhuman punishment for Breivik. We really are pissed on him. I mean pissed! Also remember that our laws were written 200 years ago. Who'd think about the worst mass murderer in history in 1814? Well, at that time it might have been 30 victims and still the worst in history.

To sit trapped is our official answare to Breivik and criminals in general. Recently Breivik told a german female terrorist that he wouldn't come out alive. Is he thinking commit suicide? No matter. At least we threath him civilized. It's our society's acid test. The official Norway want him re-programmed like any other. In general that's what work for us.

edit: Oh, I forgot. Breivik overruled the law, the judge and the jury. Why not the coffee as well?

I know the max sentence under Norwegian law, but it still royally pisses me of. That equates to just over 100 days per victim. But even as you say, it can be extended as often as needed, I can probably guarantee some lawyer will try to get him out and stunts like this will only make it easier for him to get out.

Who knows? What we're afraid of is US conditions. It's not about eye for an eye, tooth for tooth. We try to recover our prisoners which shows better results than vengeance. We may talk loud about towards but when it comes to vengeance nothing seem to stop human.

However Breivik don't want out. Breivik never said that. The background for his mass murderer and terror acts is that he don't recognize the current society. He'd rather spend the rest of his life in jail.

Of course when he finished serving his sentence there will be proceedings wethear he's ready for the society and not.

Chances are that with 70 victims if he does get out in 20 or so years some relative will want their pound of flesh. And it doesn't matter what country you are from when someone kills a loved one there are those who want payback.

What is the purpose of the comparison to something completely unrelated? You and Mets and MeDeFe and Symmetry and Iliad and AAFitz, Notyou2 keep doing that.

You think it means something, but it means absolutely nothing

The Breivik guy was the one comparing it to Abu_Ghraib - hardly a big unrelated nonsensical tangent there if people had actually read the article before rushing to post on the thread

Sorry, you still don't make sense. How about some explanation in your posts?

If I was in power (and you can thank your gods that I am not) I would blood eagle these bastards in public. Whiny little European. The days of drawing and quartering are well passed, but in such cases should be brought back. Prison is not good enough for this fktard...sometimes you need to sentence people to death...but NOT DEATH ROW! When you sentence people to death, you should kill them on the next day...end of story. Closure is fulfilled and everyone can get on with their lives.

Yeah, I'm a tough guy...whatchya gonna do about it?
