Should Media be Held Accountable

So that whole Manti Te'o said story about losing his grandma then his girlfriend is complete bullshit. He lost his grandmother but he never had a girlfriend to lose. Should the media be held accountable for completely making up a story. Yes, this happens quite often but not so often is the hoax found out. What do you think?
