MTG's movie Review: Here Comes the Boom

Okay, it's no instant classic or masterpeice or anything like that, but it did entertain, tell a story, had character development, and made me laugh. Okay, here's the premise.

The story is about a biology teacher named Scott Voss, a teacher who just runs kids through his class and tries to shirk any extra responsibilities on to others, especially co-worker and music teacher Marty (played by Henry Winkler), kind of a pushover, but an all around good guy. Marty is a passionate music teacher that loves teaching kids and often helps people out, even going so far as to order beat up instruments to fix them and give to kids. Anyways, the story really takes place when during the staff meeting, the principal is discussing cut backs due to being in the red. One of these cutbacks involves abolishing the music department, aka, getting rid of Marty and his classes. Scott, outraged by this, takes a stand and demands to know why fundraising hasn't been enough. The principal tells him that the school is $48,000 in the hole, and there is simply no other way. After a failed meeing, Scott, during his US citizens class (he teaches it), ends up talking to one of his students while helping him study and finds out that he was a MMA fighter. Scott learns that if he becomes a MMA fighter, and just loses matches, he can get some good cash to put forward to saving his friend's job. And the story (and comedy) really take off from there.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with this movie. It was funny, the characters were likeable, and the story was pretty decent. Also, it's fun for the whole family too. I would definitly recomend this movie to casual fans just for simple entertainment value.

Nah, don't do it often enough to warrant a thread to all of them. Last one I did was the 3 Stooges Movie over the summer.

So it is a comical spin off from the movie "Warrior"? Where a high school teacher becomes an MMA fighter because of cutbacks and losing his job? Only difference is that your movie doesn't have Tom Hardy, AND my teacher needs to win.

He does need to win in the end. And a bit similar, but the guy is trying to save his friend's job, not his own.
