When the SHTF, even with guns, it won't be a walk in the park and will in fact take tremendous courage. America's future hangs in the balance.http://theroanokestar.com/?p=19185

You gonna be one of the victims? I hope it works out for you. If the 2nd amendment goes then the 1st amendment is right behind it. Then we the people are fucked. Just a educated guess.

So you trust Congress to make these so-called "Sensible Laws"? Have they demonstrated an ability to make "Sensible laws" in the past that gives you such confidence?

Do you feel the elite members of society should play by different rules than the rest of us? The current Feinstein bill in the Senate would exempt government "officials" from this law. Is that "sensible"?

Are you willing to let Congress make some "sensible laws" around other amendments? Such as the fourth and seventh?

No, I do not trust Congress to make sensible gun laws.
No, Congress has generally not made sensible gun laws in the past.
No, I do not believe elite members of society should play by different rules than everyone else, although I would not call government officials "elite."
No, that is not sensible.
No, I am not willing to let Congress make sensible laws around other amendments, although I admit I do not know what you mean by "around other amendments."
No, I do not trust Congress to understand the Fourth (clearly they don't) and Seventh amendments.

I hope I've answered your questions. Don't confuse my contempt for the NRA as support for Congress. One can (and I do) hold contempt for both sides in this issue. There are sensible gun laws that should be passed. We've been over those before.

And hey, we all learned a political lesson today! Even people like patrick are swayed by the idea that there are only two sides to an issue because there are only two political parties. More evidence that our system is fucked up.

That video was clearly well researched serious news. I'd better pay attentiont to it.

Hell, Andy's Futurama clips are more informational.

This is you - "AHHHH! THEY'RE GOING TO OUTLAW THE WAY CERTAIN GUNS LOOK AND MAKE SURE I CAN ONLY CARRY 20 BULLETS INSTEAD OF 120! YOU'RE VIOLATING MY SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS! THE WORLD IS GOING TO END! CRIMINALS WON'T BE SCARED OFF BY MY SHOTGUN/RIFLE/HAND GUN ANYMORE BECAUSE THEY WILL KNOW I WON'T HAVE PURCHASED IT FROM A GUN SHOW! WAAAH!"

That's you. YOU are the sheeple... the gun manufacturers are doing an awesome job convincing you that you'll be killed by a criminal or the government because you can't buy a gun that looks like an M-16 (nevermind that it's not actually an M-16).

You're a fucking moron. Let me spell that out for you... f-u-c-k-i-n-g m-o-r-o-n.
I am the moron?........... The Second Amendment:

A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed............................ This so called moron believes any gun control law to be an infringement of the 2nd amend. and believes we have the right to own machine guns and weapons capable of knocking out tanks. If and when SHTF happens, we would need these weapons to battle tanks and machine guns...........................As to your comments in a later post........And hey, we all learned a political lesson today! Even people like patrick are swayed by the idea that there are only two sides to an issue because there are only two political parties. More evidence that our system is fucked up.....................In fact this statement is more proof of a dumbed down sheeple. You claim this country is fucked up and I agree. You apparently believe gun control will make it better and I firmly disagree. You apparently believe that someday you will vote in a good government. In my opinion, this can only happen through a revolution and sadly, may not even happen then. This county is in fact, and at best, a two party dictatorship and/or Duopoly or Oligopoly. That said, I will conclude with a few quotes from the falsely accused rapist, Thomas Jefferson. He who knows nothing is closer to the truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
............Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” (Quoting Cesare Beccaria).............The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it. ...............When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty............What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? .......The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all.............God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty.... And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure. ...........The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.......The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers. ........The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

You've answered the questions for the most part, still confused how you do not trust Congress to write a sensible law but yet state that there are sensible laws that should be passed. How do you expect that to happen? Legislative judges? Executive Orders?

I just know there is only one gun rights advocate group that recognizes a slippery slope. I do not agree with everything the NRA does or says but my views are much more inline with them than the opposite side. Some democrats in non-pro-gun states have been caught stating they wish they could get rid of all guns. Their agenda is known, that is what I fear.

I vote every election though my vote is very outvoiced as my district has one of the lifetime members that never poses any realistic challenge due to the district.

I know there is an elite society that plays by different rules, however I will not just accept it as it appears you have done. I will continue to call it what it is. It's good to know that it doesn't bother you though.

I am not defending nor agreeing with GR in this thread. I want my opinions/statements to be considered independent of his.

Can you show me the bill or discussions where they are talking about 20 round max magazines? Unless you were using that number for absurdity as I've seen most bills talk about a magazine half that size or smaller.

Plus the second amendment isn't just to protect ourselves from criminals but also tyrants, foreign and domestic. There will never be an invasion on American soil if we have the second amendment but we have to be allowed to have more than nerf guns and .22 caliber single shots.

If I knew that gun control at an agreed upon "sensible" level would stop there and never be pushed any further, I could possibly get on board with it dependent on what that sensibility is. Until then, I will err on the side of caution. Note, I do not think we should be able to have fully auto weapons, bazookas, tanks, or personal attack helicopters but a .223 semi-auto defensive rifle is a far cry from those things.
