Welcome one and all!

Enter this sanctuary an free yourself by confessing to us; you fellow sinners!

Think of it like this little setup with less intersecting beams, more airconditioning and instead of one pedo on the other side, theres 47 of us

I'll start!

I am incredibly vain and spend a stupid amount of time looking in the mirror.

NEW RULE! I didnt want to do this but you blatherers have force this would be centrall planners hand; every post must contain at least one confession.

Sometimes, when playing doubles with my brother, I ignore strategy and just blindly farm a card. I then realise its a no spoils game.

time for some real talk: i don't confess things to other people* because my life experiences lead me to believe that most of them make far more mistakes than i do, are generally worse people than i am, and are not worthy of hearing my faults, because it gives them a psychological advantage over me and makes them less likely to admit their own shortcomings.

yes, i know i have a huge ego...

also, i generally don't think regret accomplishes all that much, seeing as people usually act in the best way that they can with the knowledge they had at the time. any regret that's not a learning experience is wasted emotion.

I realise you don't give a shit what I think, but whatever.

You're judging people according to your subjective criteria as inferior to yourself and using this to avoid admitting your shortcomings. Further, you think this will make these people more likely to admit their shortcomings to you and so allow you to gain some kind of upper hand.

Seriously, does that sound sane when you say it out loud? Do you view all human interaction as some kind of staged battle?

Also, as far as I'm concerned, regret is a tool used to get you to change your behaviour next time.

Oh, and since I'd feel like too much of a dick by saying that shit and not talking about myself as well:

lol @ "not giving a shit what i think". not like i've responded to any of your posts before, right? you say things like that as an act of aggression despite the fact that you know it's not true.

i'm not talking about judging anyone in particular. in fact, when i directly interact with people i try to treat them as equals (assuming i don't know anything about them), even though i believe that people are not equal in most respects. making false assumptions about people is a dangerous thing to do, so i try to avoid it, even though they usually turn out to be correct. when i get to know them, then i judge them as individuals.

also, i often admit my shortcomings to myself and (try to) make an effort at self-improvement. but my point is that they aren't the business of other people.

and yes, human interaction is a battle when the interaction in question is a zero-sum game (i.e. we are not both benefiting from the interaction).

Haggis_McMutton wrote:Also, as far as I'm concerned, regret is a tool used to get you to change your behaviour next time.

agreed, regret can be useful as a learning experience, like i said. but usually people don't learn from regret and it just makes them depressed for no reason.

agression? what? if anything I was going for self-deprecation. (i.e. I'm gonna give my oppinion even though I know you don't care)
I responded to funky when he was attacking me every-whichwhere a while ago. I sure as hell didn't care what he thought about me, it was just fun to play that game for a while(and look now we've progressed to the point where we can agree that "I Claudius" is a good series).

I think that, in general, it's unhelpful to say that a person is "worse" than another person. People are too complex to make statements like that, unless you carefully define what "worse" means in this context.

john9blue wrote:also, i often admit my shortcomings to myself and (try to) make an effort at self-improvement. but my point is that they aren't the business of other people.

Sure. It's just nice to have some people you can talk about that stuff with. If you only use yourself for evaluation your perception can get skewed.

john9blue wrote:and yes, human interaction is a battle when the interaction in question is a zero-sum game (i.e. we are not both benefiting from the interaction).

This is like saying human interaction is a battle when it is a battle. The issue is how often do you perceive the interaction as being zero-sum(it probably shouldn't be very often).

i'm talking about one person being worse than another person in a certain aspect. are you okay with that at least?

i guess that was pretty redundant. i don't really know when it's a zero-sum game for just the agents involved, because there are too many factors. but in a universal sense i think everything is a zero-sum game, since we can't make something from nothing.

what matters to most people is whether the interactions are mutually beneficial for the parties involved, which i'd say is usually the case (that's the basis behind the free market after all)

I can't tell the difference between Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes. When I saw the shitty Clash remake, I thought Liam Neeson was playing both Zeus and Hades. I had to be told otherwise.

[tangent] I assumed J9B was being clever and the content of his original post was mostly tongue in cheek (while likely also being an honest summary of his position; but I didnt bother to think too much about that - J9B almost always posts from the ivory tower on these boards, his real personna is both unknown, and probably unknowable - much like Saxi)[/tangent]

I dont go to the gym to justify my mockery of fat people; I quite comfortably mocked fat people long before I became addicted to exercise.

Is that the one where you get to unload a barrel or two on a cute Italian plumber?
