Uh...Spock, of course. I'm also a fan of MacGyver. And for pure entertainment, Monk.

I use to stay up really late when I was in high school and watch this show all the time. Great show.

I've always enjoyed watching Monk:

My favorite characters are usually not the ones I would admire in a real life situation, but the ones I find interesting. "The Doctor" from the Doctor Who series has the same intrigue.

Re: the wire.

I too found it really hard to get into TG. But it does get a lot better once you "get it". I thought it was a cultural thing, but maybe its more generic than that.

(maybe a combination of the large volume of characters + a kind of rambling plot line that takes a while to get used to?)

OT: I love any and all "dumb" guys. Favourites include Ed from ed, edd and eddy; patrick from spongebob; Vince from Dexter; Bronn from GoT and Bubbles from Trailer Park Boyz.

note: by "dumb" I don't mean they have to be retarded/stupid, but more they play the satircal/literal/comedic counter role to the lead or prominant role.

Still have never seen The Wire (I've caught it on TV a couple times but always an episode from the middle of the series and I'm not sure how much they carry over but I don't like jumping into to the middle of tv shows)

Daryl from Walking Dead

Tyrion/Jon Snow from Game of Thrones

Dexter/Lundy/Doakes from Dexter (First season is still the best.)

I have to agree about Ben from Lost back before it went downhill.

I think there is a cultural element to it and I think it's an excellent commentary on life in a city (and the degeneration thereof). Each season tackles different subject matter (drug dealers, police, unions, schools, and the media).
