What is it? I have no idea what you're talking about.

My wife got this... it's not the most accurate tracking system out there.

I think Garmin has some GPS based watches that do a better job. The way that Nike does it leads to errors.

The good think about the Nike system is the ability to upload it... and the online community that has gelled around it.

This is true. I ran the NYC Marathon in 2008 had to walk an extra 2 miles to get it to register 26.2 miles. (Yes I did calibrate it)

Nike's Community is Awesome, especially the graphs, goals, and competitions. I just wish the hardware was as good as the software. The shoes that Nike + works with to are a little lagging.

It's basically an accelerometer that goes in your tennis shoes and a sports band or iPod if you like that receives the info and calculates the pace, time, distance and all that. After you run, you plug the usb device of the band to your computer and it automatically upload your data so you have all your runs, times, paces., best times, you get to compete with your friends and all that.

I've heard that about the garmin. The nike+ device is not bad tho, if you run in a track or a treadmill or anywhere were you can measure the distance, you can calibrate it form your computer and after a couple of times it gets quite accurate.

Two miles seems to be a lot, perhaps the hardware of 2010 is a bit better.

But yes I think they could do better, for instance, calculate the calories you burn taking into account the pace and time too, not only the distance and weight. I mean, how hard can it be.

one things they do not take into account is elevation and the Garmin does. It takes more calories to run uphill and down hill (not just falling, distance running requires pace and not just flailing down the hill) than it does to run on flat surface. This is a big draw back to the Nike+ system.

Andriod phone + gps + one of 21398321093281 run tracking apps?

Nike was a reasonable product when it first came out but I dont see why you wouldnt just use a gps-capable phone these days...?
