Game of Thrones - Daily Book Club Discussion

Postby Viceroy63 on Sun Jun 09, 2013 4:34 pm

I thought that it might be fun to read Game of Thrones together and discuss it bit by bit. This would be like a CC Book of the month club only on a daily basis in small bite size daily chapter readings.

Do not post links to sites that contain "Free" stuff.

By clicking on the Chapter Links below, you can skip all of the comments and go directly to that Chapter of the book for easy finding and reading. Be sure to click on the word "Show" in the 'Show/Hide' box.

Please do not post any Copyright material.

Am I really breaking "Copyright Laws" here?
For the purpose of education and discussion I do believe that it is allowed! Only when one makes money off of another person's work is it a violation of copyright laws.

I won't post info on gathering reading material for free online. Or you can go to any library and borrow the book for free upon attaining a library card.

But if you do know where this is illegal then post it so that we all know exactly what "copy right" law you are referring to?

I wont post links on gaining illegal material.

Thanks for discussing the book.

BTW: Neither I or anyone that I know or am aware of, is making any money off of this posting. In case it needs to be made clear.

Doesn't matter whether you are getting any money from it, you are distributing private property. And the website you are refering too is doing the same illegal practice.

Copyright protection subsists, in accordance with this title, in original works of authorship fixed in any tangible medium of expression, now known or later developed, from which they can be perceived, reproduced, or otherwise communicated, either directly or with the aid of a machine or device. Works of authorship include the following categories:

Subject to sections 107 through 122, the owner of copyright under this title has the exclusive rights to do and to authorize any of the following:

(2) to prepare derivative works based upon the copyrighted work;

(3) to distribute copies or phonorecords of the copyrighted work to the public by sale or other transfer of ownership, or by rental, lease, or lending;

, the owner of copyright under this title has the exclusive rights to do and to authorize any of the following:

That's sounds right. Did you understand that? The owner has the exclusive right to do with his work any of the following. To do with his work what he wants.

This does not mean that the website link is an illegal website but is in fact publishing or posting rather, with the exclusive permission of the owner of the work. That is what all of that copy right is about. Read it carefully. The only true breaking of copyright is not posting the source. Thanks for reminding me.

If the owner of the work gave permission for that book to be reposted on an internet site then he can't sue if his work goes viral because he already gave permission for his work to be posted on the internet. Also there are loopholes in Copyright laws that allow for the spreading and distribution of literature for the purpose of education. Sorry, but I won't look for it!!!

At least not today.

well do you personally have the permission from George R. Martin to publicly display this here? If not, you are breaking the law.
These law articles are talking about the person who got his work copyrighted = owner of copyright =/= owner of book or copy of it

If you feel that strongly about it then please report it and prove your point that way. My point is that if the owner already gave permission or if there is a loophole in the copyright law that allows for reposting of/for " The free information act," then how can I be breaking the law when it is already out there for anyone to read for free? Or what if I just post the link to the Chapter, would I be in violation of copyright law then? I believe that Copyright law is to protect the owner from others making money off of his work. That is the basic premise of it. But like I said, if you believe that I am breaking the law then please report me.

If you just post the link, you aren't infringing the law. And I do agree that the copyright laws are somewhat ridiculous in this sense, but I'm just letting you know ...

Anyway; In chapter one, there was a beheading where the young Stark boy, Bran, had to watch and understand why His Father, Ned Stark, had to be the one to decapitate that man.

After that they found a dead Direwolf. A creature that grows enormously more larger than a regular wolf. Also they found that with the Direwolf were 6 pups. The boy Bran wanted the wolf pups and promised to raise them. More or less that was Chapter one.

Chapter two intruduce Catelyn, Ned's Starks wife. She informed her husband of the death of her sisters husband and that the king, "Robert?" was coming to Winterfell. There is of course more but just to sum it up some. lol. =)

Winter is coming is the Stark Family Motto.

I couldn't really care either way, other than to say, use spoilers for condensing your posts, bro.

Huh, me and tgd were actually just talking about the effect of pirating GRRM books, so this is pretty funny.

What's the equivalent of the bat signal for tgd? I feel like he needs to be summoned to this thread.

Phew, I'm here guys. Sorry, got caught up dealing with Clayface.

Question - If I already own the novel, can I still read it here without violating copyright laws and the morality of intellectual property rights?

You certainly are free to discuss the story if that's what you mean? That is the whole purpose of "A Thread," to discuss a topic. No one is forcing you, ok. That's only if you desire to talk about it.

That's to say that the second in command gets all the blame. :lol:

You are probably right. But there is nothing like a good discussion.

If we are all on the same page that is. That's why I would like to go nice and slow on this. To see who would be interested in the subject matter? After all; We all log on everyday to check our games anyway. =)
