How far north have you been?

Postby Gillipig on Wed Aug 07, 2013 9:26 am

Most of us here are northern hemispherers, but how far north have you been? I probably live further north than most have ever been, but I've been traveling north as well. The furthest north I've ever been was when I was 12, me and my parents traveled to Narvik, latitude 68°N. As comparison, Anchorage is located at 61°N.

I have been to Kotzebue Alaska which is in the Arctic Circle. 66.89 degrees N.

I am planning a Scandinavian Cruise next year but doubtful we will get as far north as Narvik.

That's pretty far up, what were you doing up there? Any chance you were on a whale safari :)? That was the reason we went up to Narvik. If you want trump me you on your trip to Scandinavia you can always visit Tromsö, 69°N or Hammerfest, one of only a handful of cities who can boost with being located above the 70th north parallel.

It was a family vacation through Alaska and we wanted to visit someplace within the Arctic Circle. I have kayaked and cruised through the Inside Passage. Walked on a glacier. Hiked through Denali National park. Seen Whales, Killer Whales, and every type of marine and land wildlife you can see in Alaska. My first time there was back in 1981. My last trip was 2005.

I've never been north of 49. Probably 46. I live lower than 30% of the US. And those cocksuckers have the nerve to call me a Northerner.

Probably either Helsingor or just north of Aarhus. Would have to check a map to be sure. Then again, might be Skyrna British Columbia.. again, without a map, cannot truly say.

The furthest north I've ever been was probably between 70° and 75° during a flight from Toronto to Paris in 2010. We had to fly especially far north due to the volcano in Iceland fucking everything up.

The furthest north that I have ever actually touched the ground, was at 54°46′.

I was at 53°32′ this past weekend, and I live at 51°03′.

I'm going to Ayrurevi next year, even less chance of a correct spelling.

Is this place in the Milky Way or the Andromeda galaxy? Google returned nothing on the name so I naturally doubt it's existence.

Faribanks, Alaska... 64° 51'

(the highest point north is actually on Highway 3 on the way out of town, which loops slightly to the north. Fairbanks itself is only at 64° 50')

Highway 3 is one of the southernmost highways in Ontario. Clearly, you were hallucinating. Or did Alaska copy our highway numbers? If so, I'd say that's grounds for invasion.
