They should be forced to play a year for the minimum salary before signing a new contract. Or something along those lines.

Well, Ryan Braun is without his salary through his suspension...that's a pretty big monetary hit, if you as me.

He loses less than $4 million off an approximately $11 million contract. Next year, his 5 year, $105 million (approximate numbers) contract kicks in that he signed immediately after the 2011 season, when he tested positive for PEDs but weaseled out of the ban. That means he has to lose $4 million in order to gain $21 million per year for 5 years. Sounds like an easy trade off.

That's just it...it's not a trade off. It's a full loss of $4 million. At the time Braun took the PEDs, he wasn't thinking "It doesn't matter if I get caught, because even though I'll lose $4 million, I'll gain $105 million". He was thinking "I won't get caught". Period.

As well, it definitely does appear that there are going to be serious consequences for future violations forthcoming, now that the Players' Union is pretty onboard with handling this thing the way it should be.

I would not hesitate to use PEDs if I thought it would make me $500,000, nevermind $105 million.

As far as I'm concerned, people suspected of PED use in the past (e.g. Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, McGwire) should still be HoFers (and for some first ballott HOFers). And I hate all four of those guys (not for PEDs - I don't care if you use whatever).

I agree. That was the era they played in.

Well yes, he assumed he wouldn't get caught, but that doesn't change the numbers. He signed a new, rich contract while he was juiced and won't lose one penny from that contract.

This is capitalism at its finest! Now I just need to get into the MLB. And learn to play baseball. And get drugged up. Hm.

Financially speaking all these fuckers have already made so much money that none of this even matters. Salary wise it's petty BS to this elite group.

Some of these individual salaries could feed a third world country
for a year, not just a village.

If MLB wanted to end this abuse it would stiffen and enforce their
rules, but I'm thinking the club management is too strong of an
influence. Otherwise getting caught cheating with performance
enhancing drugs would be a lifetime ban period.

No tolerance, grace periods, fines or other BS.

Tigers have now won 11 straight and have a 6 game lead on Cleveland. Who they get to play once more tonight. Detroit is 8-1 this year at Cleveland. Go Tigers.

Bollocks.

Braves have won 13 straight and finished a perfect 6-0 road trip against division rival nats to take a 15 1/2 game lead in the east. They have the second best record in Baseball and along with Boston became one of the first two teams to 70 last night.

Ha! You made me look at page one.
Gotta love all the optimism a new
season brings with it.

AL finally gets the World Series home field
and it's hard to imagine the STAR STUDDED
Angels even making the post season atm.
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!
Braves are rockin' the NL right now...
but who will be hot when it matters?

If Braves can secure home field adv. In the playofffs than I like our shot at making the Ws and weve played reasonably well against both the Cards and the Pirate (have swept both at Turner Field) who look to be the two most likely teams we would run into or at least I feel like the centeal will start beating itself up more and Braves get the 1 seed) I would give us decent odds in the WS. If the Braves werent to make it, it would not surprise me if Pittsburgh won the series.

Who would have thought that a five game series featuring Kansas City at Detroit would end up being key in the Central Division race?

OR... like the Dodgers in the NL after an awful start
KC has come back strong.

The Astros won another game in Oakland last night.

Whenever I see this topic, my first, and probably only topic, is Tom Hanks in 'A League of Their Own' saying: There's no crying in baseball.

Guess we'll see what they've got as a Tiger series starts tonight in Detroit
with both teams at 6-4 over their last ten. KC faces Sanchez tonight and
Verlander tomorrow on the front end of a double header.

That was certainly some fine looking cleavage, I'll keep that in mind
