I was thinking the Sun was brighter (to us) but that one makes more sense, being binary (thanks wikipedia)

OOh cool I figured out how the quote thing works (I think)
You are correct the answer is Sirius aka Dog Star... kind of funny when you think about my user name (on Y!A)

I was thinking your name was in reference to the movie dog star man.
I don't write riddles, but I know some good ones:
My belly is round
And bound with iron bonds;
What I carry always raises a cheer.
Murder have I not done;
Stolen not; cheated not;
Yet a peg is beaten into my head.

Well depending on how long you have followed me you would know I'm a bit of a Norse Mythology buff... which is where I sort of picked up the nick name "Dog Star"...
I haven't heard that one in a long time... if my memory isn't failing me the answer to your riddle should be a barrel

I think the full answer is a wooden keg of beer.

A man is trapped in a room. The room has only two possible exits: two doors. Through the first door there is a room constructed from magnifying glass. The blazing hot sun instantly fries anything or anyone that enters. Through the second door there is a fire-breathing dragon. How does the man escape?

open both doors, magnifying glass then fries the dragon. close that door and proceed through past the dead dragon off scott free!
But im not much of a riddle man.

Wait till nightfall was my answer, but killing a dragon does seem more fun if infinitely more dangerous.
