I've been giving the opening question some thought:
and I've come to the conclusion that , no, the A wasn't always there.
It's the Bible that tells us this:
"In the beginning was the word and the word was God".
So we know from the Bible that when the universe waqs created, the alphabet started at G.

OK so the alphabet started with "Y". Conversations were stilted and limited.
