Pulled over for 56 in a 35.
I told the officer that I have never driven this car before
He wrote me a ticket and told me that I should plea Not Guilty and fight it.
I know wording is everything... He said, "I have to prove how fast you were going and where you were speeding, and that I should at least get it knocked down where it didn't give me points on my license"

1. I attempted to read the ticket, I was not caught via radar or anything, it looks like he did a very quick D = RT over like .2 miles? (I will double check)
2. I will double check the location he said I was speeding, he could have made an error in that on purpose? At first glance the address looks close but it doesn't completely add up.
3. I know cops schedule their court dates all at once, so I should almost definitely try to get a continuance and reschedule it right?
4. I also know the basics, dress nice, be professional, yaddda yadda.
5. does anyone have any other specific advice? What should I expect and are there any specific things I should say?

Thanks.

I live in michigan and i dont know if this law applies every where, but my uncle said that his buddy gets out of all his tickets, because the rule is as long as you arent causing harm to anyone else youre fine. I dont know if thats true, just something my uncle told me

Do you not think that having head-on collisions which end your life are a reasonable proxy for measuring driving skills?

The British, since Liddel-Hart invented the blitzkreig. Duh. Follow my train. I`m in Miami, trick.

I still don't find the correlation satisfying. Besides, there's plenty of people who speed yet do not cause or are involved in wrecks. I'm gonna place this on incompetence of the drivers and incompetence of the test-givers.

I'm onto you, DoomYoshi. If you admit that you're the one creating these tests, then I can promise safe passage to Canada.

Considering nearly 100% of people speed, that is a fair judgement. However, we can still look at the proportion you are speeding over the limit and determine how often those higher speeds are involved in fatal accidents.

Who cares if you find the correlation satisfying? Mathematical models cant be expected to accurately represent reality. As an economist, you should realize this. The assumptions of models dont have to make sense for the model to still give predictive power. The problem with ecomonics is you actually start to believe the assumptions of the models.

According to my rigorous DMV training, accidents most frequently occur during sunny, dry conditions where traffic is heavy (thus people drive slow). In conclusion, the accidents are caused by the very low speeds.

If you want the best for radar detection, I'd go with Beltronics or Escort.

I'd be worried about GPS systems with radar detectors because it doesn't seem that they're specializing in their production. It just seems that they're adding something crappy in order to bump up the price.

Or perhaps they are caused by people trying to rush. Hence the name rush hour.

Can't really go fast in bumper-to-bumper traffic. So, we can see the faulty reasoning at play in those studies you mentioned. It's mostly about stupid drivers (not just speeding, but speeding at the wrong times and the wrong circumstances), and also it's a management problem (the DMV creates dumb tests which greatly increase the number of dumb drivers on the roads).

Clearly, the fault lies with the managers, and imposing arbitrary speeding limits won't resolve the issue.

What do you mean dumb tests? When I wrote my driving test it asked me what does a stop sign mean? with a picture of a stop sign and everything.

I understand your dilemma, DY. I too have failed the drivers' test 5 times because I can't tell the difference between yellow lines, white lines, dashed lines, and all signs. Finally, by random brute force, I correctly guessed the required 85% and was let loose onto the roads and highways of this great nation! All insurance agents and fellow motorists will tremble at my externalized costs!

That`s kind of how I got through high school. I got a gym credit because I told my principal that another principal offered me the credit for free. He did, but I never documented proof or anything. I never had to get sweaty after grade 8.

This is why low populous states, such as Montana and Wyoming, have a higher speed limit, than most places out east.

DY, I took gym as an elective, because my mom wouldn't let me join the brutality of football. On the other hand, it likely saved me from cheerleader syphilis, and countless OWIs.

Colorado, Utah, and Nevada also have 75mph speed limits on the interstates.

why would a cop write you a speeding ticket and then recommend that you fight it in court? are they trying to reach a quota?
