Out of impatience and disgust I begin a thread touching on a topic that typifies the current approach to topics in the US; unless someone can exploit the topic for their own ends, they ignore it.
Miriam Carey, 34, dental hygienist, single black mother, was shot to death in the heart of the US Capitol. Apart from the video in front of the Capitol, and the press making random, unfounded comments as to her mental stability and intentions we have very few facts about the case. The facts which we do have are contradictory and unverified.
She was driving a two-door Infiniti, with her one-year-old child in the back. CNN reported that a second passenger was in the car, and the existing video of the event does not prevent this possibility.
What is sure is actually quite little, considering her car shows little physical damage and a lack of bullet holes. When killed, she was confined and a witness says that the police removed the child before killing her. We have been told she rammed the barriers, and yet the video shows that this didn't happen. We were told that she was using the car as a weapon, yet confined at the end, and ith the ability to reach into a two-door car and undo the baby from its car seat would suggest that the "weapon" was immobilized and that the situation contained.
The child has been kept from the family and they were only shown a photo of Miriam as confirmation. Why keep the child from her aunts? Why keep the body hidden?
Whatever reason, it deserved a standing ovation from our political leaders.
Do you feel that the citizens are being steered towards a future of blind obedience? That this case is the precedent of what we are to expect?
Do you think the police, and our elected officials acted reasonable?
What about the media? Are they ignoring the issues of the case and continually trying to have her appear crazy? They have called her crazed, bipolar, obsessed. They said it was a shoot out, though she was unarmed. Alternately they called it a gun battle. We have been told that two officers were injured, meanwhile the officers were nowhere near her at the time and themselves crashed into a distinct barricade far from the scene of events. Was this intentional? We have an envelope with white powder addressed to her boyfriend found outside her apartment, with no letter inside. Finally, they say that documents mentioning bipolar were found in her house and make an issue of nearly $1300 found in her car. What kinds of documents? Was it an ad? What breakdown of the cash do we get: cash, foreign coins, and cheques. Wow.
