lol, so you have been so desperate for kisses in you life that you"ve had to kiss yourself?![]()
So if you go t france and you have to salute a woman that is not just randomly met (hold your horses! the less ambiguous woman possible. let's just say your host wherever you are staying and that she is genuinely friendly) and she comes towards you, says "bonjour" and kisses you on both cheeks would you think something sexual has just happened?![]()
but seriously... you never kiss your mother/grandmas/sisters? that is the wierdest think I ever heard! hope you were kidding.
We (uk and Ireland culture) never kiss relatives or friends, but we also (I hope) understand that other cultures do. In Peru men just shuck hands to say hello, and I mean all the time. Woman you gave one kiss on the cheek when introduced or saying hello/goodbye.

Betiko, you frenchmen are too civilized for your own good! Things are much simpler socially in Sweden.
If you don't know the person, man or woman, you shake hands.
If you know the person but it's more of an associate from work or similar, man or woman, you shake hands.
If you know this person well, and it's someone you could call a friend or who is a partner of a relative of yours, and it's a woman, you hug her. If it's a man, you make the gesture of hugging but don't fully hug as that is a bit too much physical contact between two unrelated men. (male friends never hug each other, female friends however do.)
If it's a family member you HUG them, no kisses, no groping and certainly no eye contact. Okay the last was a joke, but the rest is valid.
Also, a boy does not hug his father unless he's very young, teenage sons do not hug their fathers unless they're moving out of the house or leaving for another country. You also don't shake hands with your father, you just avoid physical contact with him for the reminder of your life basically.
The only times it's socially permitted to kiss another human being in Sweden is if the person in question is your sexual partner (don't do it in public though), or if you have a very young baby and you can't help yourself because you think he/she is just too adorable, then you can give a little kiss on the cheek.
P.S That's only okay if it's your own child or your grandchild.

There are horrible bigots that might cause trouble for male homosexuals kissing in public or vocal female ones. Jerks are a fact of life I guess.

Oh. I guess I got bad information. No wonder I received so many strange looks when I was in Stockholm.

Gillipig, so is it really inapropriate for you to kiss your friend s toddlers?
Funny cause you guys sit around naked with strangers in saunas, but kissing a well known friend is inapropriate?
