They are responsible for the safety of thousands of passengers every day and if you've ever lived or worked in London (or even visited) you'll know how vital the tube is for London to function. I detest your argument that the wages of these workers should be held down just because other professions are similarly undervalued. We should fight for all professions to get a fair wage - not play one against another. Solidarity between the workforce is needed. 30K is not a lot of money to support a family in London. And as for it being a redundant profession I would put it to you that if there was any redundant workers out there it was the military. What use is it in this day and age? To advance the US and Britain's imperial aims? I think we need to re prioritise.

Actually I was just referring to the drivers not to every single employee. I never said that anyones wages should be held down, rather that a comparison between wages show that train drivers are grossly overpaid. You are right that everyone deserves a fair wage, what would go a long way to aiding that would be to sort out the housing market and to reduce taxes... (council tax should be reduced as proven by the revelation of semi-secret council slush funds in icelandic banks). I'd be more than happy to disband the military but that is an entirely seperate issue.

30K for an uneducated, unskilled job is a very good wage, irrelevant of where they live - they would get half that in any other unskilled trade.

The Transport authority should just do as the Lincolnshire oil refinery did when their employees began striking - sack the whole fucking lot of them and put their jobs onto the marketplace for those who were willing to work for the decent wages they were paying... that shut the fucking mud scum, union-driven moaning twats up.

GIMME AN S
GIMME A A
GIMME A C
GIMME A K
WHAT DO WANT?

THE SA....... OH SSSSSHIT, PLEASE GIVE US OUR JOBS BACK.

Cry me a fucking river... serves you right for being duped by useless, shit-stirring unions.

Au contraire 4nickels, it seems to me that you are the one who should be deported to china, to try and thrive within the crippling workforce of a highly-socialist nation. See what happens when the socialist tendencies are developed over a long period - the country develops every ugly characteristic of ultra-capitalism - Long hours, low pay, no working rights, poor working conditions... basically slavery... It's like going back to pre-industrial Britain.

All of this 'power to the people' bullshit that you feel when enacted detracts from a heartless capitalistic world is never going to leave you better off - all you are doing is strengthening work unions' powers and justifying their malicious endeavours.

Whoever thought of striking as a productive way of bettering one's own position?

I don't earn 30k in a unskilled obselete job. Neither does any other part of society.

Well apart from politicians who earn far more than that in an unskilled obselete job.

I love the "Move to China, see socialism" gut response. it's replaced the "Move to the USSR" because it doesn't exist anymore, and living conditions are worse now, but yeah, China is a great example of a workers paradise that got ruined when Mao came in. Before that, peaches and cream for every Chinese citizen.

Yes, if you'd paid attention you would have noticed the 2dimes was becomming confused, and spewed out that comment, not really knowing what relevance it had to anything - so I decided to gently point out to him what a daft comment it was to make, considering the position he has taken on this particular issue.

Do you know what though? China is a represents to me the perfect image of socialist triumph. Effectively off of the back of the malnourished, creeking bones of the wretched peasents has the almighty state of China been created - the bourgoise elite of the state feasting whilst the proletariat starve.

I'm sure the russians were quite relieved when the gulag halted their witch-hunts.

China and Russia are both historically backward and inferior nations - neither of them are a good example to base your political beliefs around.

So tell me, why the shocked gasp and the rhetorical question?

Gunpowder, vodka and rustic medicine aside, what have these 2 'great' nations brought to the world?

All pretty pedestrian stuff.

Nothing to even fractionally compete against the industrial revolution, sailing about and ruling the world, bringing order to the chaos that was the sub-continental asian countries, deposing the pirates in the far east islands, conquering the hearts and minds of the world, and shaping evey single governance and societal system around the superior system that was the English.

And this was all done hundreds of years ago.

Shove that rudimentary chinese medicine and gunpowder up your gaping, homo orifice.

Then go back and re-read.

I wasn't saying that Chinese inventions were superior to those of the West (the list you just put was not done solely by the English, the Dutch, Spanish, French and Portuguese played a large part in establishing the New World and colonialism). Also, a lot of the stuff you put is very ignorant and some are just not true. There are better inventions and discoveries from England and Europe then the ones you posted, the internet for a start.

The inventions that came from China may not rank up against ours, but they played a significant part in world history and cannot be deemed as a inferior or backward nation. No one with a true knowledge of science or world history could make that claim.
