RECAP - AUSTRALIA, Turns 2 and 3 (13 Turns to election)

Our Party's Name: The Democratic Union of the Fatherland (DUF)

Main Opposition Party Name: The (Mean) Green Party

New Policies / Directions:

You guys gave me a lot to work with, so I took two turns together this time.

FUNDING TECHNICAL COLLEGES -- Our GDP is in the tank still, so increasing our Technology can help this. And while Socialists don't like our directive, it does increase the number of State Employees, as well as the number of people who identify as or with State Employees. It also increases Education, however, which TGD noted was dangerous. Luckily, I've got answer to this...see the next directive.

show: Thread Input

REJECTING FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT -- Each 'turn' has a chance for some random event. It seems our citizens wanted to know more about our government. Naturally, heeding TGD's advice, though we are increasing Education with our Technology Colleges, and thus improving our citizenry knowledge, I'm stamping out their access to information that might hurt the dear Democratic Union of the Fatherland (DUF).
show: screenshot

INCREASE PRISON FUNDING -- Crime (all kinds) are still a problem in Australia. So I can kill two birds with one banana here -- since BBS suggested increasing more jobs -- especially for state employees. It also makes Liberals and Conservatives equally happy. I'd like to think the 'Extensive Rehabilitation' regimen my prisons are running are actually 'Re-Education' regimens, but no one really knows, since we shot down the Freedom of Information Act.
show: screenshot

show: THREAD input

MANSION TAX -- I know you all wanted me to tax the fatties first with a Junk Food Tax, but I didn't want to drop that on the poor yet, so I've got two things to make them happy---and this is the first. Suck on it, Wealthy. I also wanted to increase it more -- but turns out the Retired want to eventually move into Mansions or are currently really fond them, because if I moved much higher than midway they did not appreciate my efforts.
show: screenshot

show: thread input

MORE STATE HOUSING -- Naturally, I am increasing our State Housing by taxing the wealthy (see above). This is a pretty win-win---Capitalist pigs can suck it, the Poor like it and it decreases Poverty and increases Poor Earnings, it is great for Equality (I imagine everyone living in rows and rows of similar looking apartments and ranch houses), Socialists dig it. Private housing takes a big hit, but who cares about the Real Estate Market? Homeless also goes down (which you can't see on the screenshot).
show: Sreenshot

LABOR DAY ENACTED -- I had a little political capital left, so I figured why not devote a whole day to the celebration of our Socialists brothers and sisters?
show: Sreenshot

We are currently still running a Surplus and not a Deficit. Crime is still a big issue, so I might have to enact tougher laws, or deploy more armed police, or look into wire tapping or tasers. We'll see how our economy responds to Technology Colleges. I still also want to develop a Space Program...it is high on my list of wants. And I can still do a Junk Food and Plastic Bags tax, and look into Agriculture subsidies of some kind.

Any additional thoughts on what to do next turn?

How do the technology colleges only have 1% popularity?

Deploy more police to solve the crime problem. And I obviously support the space program. I also support the soda tax. Don't subsidize agriculture; do subsidize renewable energy (or institute a carbon tax if they'll let you...).

Don't you care about the poor farmers and their the poor farmers' children? The farmers need money, and the people need food! They're being wracked and ruined by the chaotic market!

Police won't cut it, so I disagree with my esteemed colleageus, Mets and TGD. We need something more--something specialized... like a Gestapo, but with better publicity! Let's call them the Friendly Surveillance Crew (FSC). They'll maintain the solidarity of our fellow Socialists and Watermelons (Environmentalists: green on the outside but very red inside). And add more police, for good measure.

It is indeed possible to subsidize renewables, and also institute a carbon tax. In fact, we already have carbon taxing, and it is our second biggest source of income: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=202080&start=45#p4417915

I can still subsidize the farmers soon. I wish there were more them, they are only like 10% of the population. Regarding Gestapo, I can increase CCTV surveillance, or look into launching "community outreach policing" or something like that.

If you didn't yet buy it, I suggest waiting for a half off deal. I am not sure I'd pay 25 bucks for the game, but it and the DLC that I got for like 16 bucks is worth it. This topic is like two movie tickets anyways.

Like I said at the beginning, Andy needs to outlaw guns and hire like five times as many police officers. He needs to recreate the Soviet Union (note, I have no idea whether the Soviet Union outlawed guns).

In the early days, they stole stuff from pretty much everybody ('workers' and peasants too), so guns should be on that list.

Now that's the stuff! Our technical institute graduates need technical jobs, so increase CCTV surveillance. The people need jobs, and we need a Strong State, so "community outreach policing" will work. It'll provide fertile recruits for our internal police! Those wealthy fat cats are plotting to assassinate you, but our Community Police will outreach into their pockets and pick them dry!

Guns are currently set "License required," which is about a middle of the road setting.

Any option about mass deporting Aborgines yet? If it ever comes up, consider my vote to be pro the suggestion.

I can increase racial profiling, as well as increasing 'citizenship tests' and increasing border security for general immigrants, I think. There is just a generic 'ethnic minorities' group.

No, I haven't. But I can legalize and tax such substances (it isn't limited to just weed, it seems to be all other illicit drugs too). We do have a health issue, which is affecting our GDP though.

And heroin can be a cheaper substitute for morphine, so health costs decrease, thus freeing up resources for more valuable uses. GDP increases! Yay!

Mmhm.

So, I've been playing lots of other video games lately, but I got back into our Australia Democracy 3 game. Here is an update:

RECAP - AUSTRALIA, Turns 4 and 5 (11 Turns to election)

Our Party's Name: The Democratic Union of the Fatherland (DUF)

Main Opposition Party Name: The (Mean) Green Party

New Policies / Directions:

TURN 4 EVENT
show: Priceless Art Theft

TURN 5 EVENT
show: People Smuggling

As you can see, we took a little hit with Conservatives, who are not big on people stealing our priceless Socialist artwork. Luckily though, like a good Socialist country, we found a bunch of extra people to do work, who were smuggled into the country. Why turn them away, comrades, when we can put them to work?

So for Policies, here is what we tackled:

INSTATE COMMUNITY POLICING -- So Crime is still a decent issue. So is 'Antisocial Behavior' -- so naturally, we've instated some Community Policing. I am not exactly sure how this looks, but I imagine lots of people watching one another in the community and reporting one another's activities. And probably lots of red arm bands too.
show: Sreenshot

show: Thread Input

YOUTH CLUB SUBSIDIES -- I imagine this going well with Community Policing. Imagine indoctrination youth clubs (Hitler Youth Clubs) popping up all around Australia now. Parents will love it (until they realize they are being watched and reported on by their children), Crime will go down, Youth love a cool place to hangout and just want to belong, man, and Socialists dig it all.
show: Sreenshot

show: Thread Input

ESTABLISH CITY FARMS -- To finally bow to BBS's pressure to do more for the farmers, I've decided to instead of subsidizing agriculture, to establish City Farms, to help feed our massive worker populations in the cities, with minimal transport time. Farmers like this.
show: Sreenshot

show: Thread Input

LEGALIZING CANNABIS -- I didn't legalize all narcotics, but I did do Cannabis for 2dimes. Hopefully our workers won't lose too much productivity.
show: Sreenshot

show: Thread Input

PLASTIC BAG TAX -- You wanted more taxes? WE'VE GOT MORE TAXES! We won't make a lot from it, but it does help our core Environmental crew, and Capitalist pigs hate it, so win win.
show: Sreenshot

show: Thread Input

INCREASE SCIENCE FUNDING (PARTICLE ACCELERATOR) -- You wanted more science and big projects? Well We've just set out to create a Particle Accelerator in Australia. I imagine it going through the waste that is the middle of Australia.
show: Sreenshot

show: Thread Input

For next couple of turns, I'd still like to tackle a Space Program. I'll also report on how our Crime stats are doing, and Health as well. Anything else you'd like me to tackle?

Crime and Space sound good. I don't get why legalizing weed Increased crime (cuz ya know, it's no longer a crime to get high, maan), but whatever, that's why we got the Brown Shirts to handle that problem. Maybe we should call them the Green Shirts.

I think legalizing weed increases crime, because people are all hopped up and committing misdemeanors and felonies, like robbing Taco Bells and or girl scouts selling cookies, etc.
