I like how Luongo can go from the top of the world in '10-'11 to being traded to the friggin Panthers.

Hopefully the Penguins get Kesler.

If the Leafs don't win tonight, I am blaming Team USA for ruining JVR and Kessel.

Trade Deadline Day is becoming a bore. There's too much information out there now that there isn't that big unexpected splash. The asking price on Kesler was a 20-25 year old NHL-ready center, a prospect, and a 1st round pick (for Toronto, this would have been Nazem Kadri, Morgan Reilly or Jake Gardiner, and their 1st round pick). In other words, way too high.

On top of that, the conditional picks are complicating things. The Martin St. Louis trade is a prime example. If the Rangers make the Eastern Conference Finals, Tampa Bay gets NYR 2nd round pick, otherwise they get they don't get the pick. That same pick has a condition on whether or not Callahan signs with TB and involves a 7th round pick somehow.

Plus, we're now getting trades that aren't really full trades. The Canadiens got Dubnyk for "future considerations" but Nashville is still going to pay half of his remaining salary for this season.

That being said, Vancouver completely mishandled their goaltending situation since the cup run. Luongo was a valued goaltender after that, with Schneider being the up and coming star. They could have sold Luongo high and had a top-level goalie with Lack as the backup. Or even last year at the trade deadline, they could have gotten more out of Luongo, but like Kesler the asking price was just too high. Instead they trade Schneider for little returns, and now dump Luongo for nothing.

Kesler will be moved on draft day, for far less than the asking price.

On a different note, what the f*ck were the Flames thinking trading Ramo to Colorado?! A potential starting goalie to a conference rival?!

Goc and Stempniak...not terrible...should fit in well with our third line. Would've loved adding Kesler to take Dupuis' spot but denom is right in that the price was just way too high. I heard that we're probably going to try to get him near the draft though.

I'd like to see Detroit go after Kesler, but I can't see it happening. Unless we trade Kesler for Franzen, but I doubt Vancouver makes that deal. We'll probably take a run at Callahan this offseason. With our young guys developing, we need help on defense more than up front currently.

Bollocks.

Not really. I admit to a little bit of surprise when the headline popped up on my phone, but reading it made sense. St. Louis requested a trade after being passed over for the Olympic team, and rumour has it that Yzerman picked him as Stamkos' replacement to try to get back in his favour and keep him in TB. On the other side, it's been well known for a while now that Callahan would be traded unless they signed a deal, and given how far apart the two camps were on that deal, it's not surprising they didn't get it done. It's hard to say who got the better of that trade - if St. Louis continues to produce in New York like he did in Tampa Bay, then what the Rangers gave up is justified. If, like every other marquee player to don a Rangers jersey, he completely fails to live up to expectations, then the Lightning come out on top.

I was surprised at how much everybody seemed to want Kesler, given guys like Callahan and Legwand on the market. Seemed like Kesler was heavily overpriced and some teams missed out on Callahan by going after him.

So on Saturday I saw Paul Ranger take the puck away and tonight he scored... is everything I know about hockey wrong????

I seriously saw him just standing still on the ice for all of 2013. Now in 2014 he has figured out he needs to put one skate in front of the other.

He looked really good, last night. The whole team did. I'd go so far as to say they played better last night than any other game this season.

I suspect getting away from all the pressure and scrutiny they face at home (and in most other NE-ish cities) helps.

Made my first sports bet today. Bet 20 to win 85. Penguins gotta win by 2 or more and the Heat gotta win by 10 or more.

It's probably going to end up being a bad bet if Kunitz and/or Neal don't end up playing...

Not terribly worried about the Heat bet...Heat have been sliding and Lebron's gonna take it out on his old team.

Fucking a. Penguins win by 4 but Heat won by 4...ugh.

Tomorrow is interesting. The Leafs are favored by 1.5 over Tampa and the Blackhawks are favored over the Blues...

If you had done 2 separate bets with the spread, you would only be down 91 cents instead of 20 dollars.

If you had done 2 straight-up bets (with the odds at my book, yours may vary), you would have been up 7.94.

OK, new one. Avs -1.5 over the Jets and the Pacers -2.5 over the Knicks. Seems
Logical enough...Pacers should dominate and Avs, despite off a back-to-back, should handle bid-ness.

Legitimately curious as to why you dislike parlays.

Gotta rock out with your cock out...

I don't dislike them at all. The majority of the gambling public uses them, and that makes money for the books, and creates value for professional gamblers.

The odds are mathematically inferior, unless you are extremely gifted at sports betting.

Yeah, that makes sense. My experience with betting is listening to Bill Simmons' podcast so it's...not that much. And he always seemingly does parlays so idk...

How often do you bet?

On football: every single week from September until February.

On horses, year-round.

On other sports: rarely (baseball and hockey are too unpredictable and basketball is so predictable you get shitty odds; there are no other sports).

For parlays to pay off, you have to be really good (at least 55% chance of picking and access to a fair book). If you are, no problem.
