Gweeedo wrote:If there really was a tree, then you wouldn't need to interpret unrelated natural, political, social, and economic events to try to figure out when the fruit was coming.
A man of secular, rather carnal, leanings can see no tree.

Oh wait, I see it now! Aren't those the Emperor's new clothes hanging from one branch? My, aren't they lovely!
And what do you have to say to all those devout followers who saw the tree clearly, and could see the leaves budding, and knew that the fruit was coming soon, and then... nothing?

Gweeedo wrote:hasn't had any fruit for 2000 years
I beg to differ. Try tasting the fruit; It is taste that gets people's nerves tingling.

I thought this metaphorical fruit was Jesus' return? I'm sure that would have been covered by Fox News. And you may see an actual, honest-to-goodness fruit tree, and imagine how good that fruit is going to taste, but until that fruit comes, it's only your imagination that's tingling.

Gweeedo wrote:What are you going to question in 2022 when he still hasn't shown up
Might question how much more of this the world can endure before the second coming...as in the days of Sodam and Gomorrah.

People have been asking that question for a loooong time. But might it be better to question the practice of trying to predict when Jesus was coming back through the status of treaties, disease outbreaks, moon phases, and building code violations?

Gweeedo wrote:It matters not when Jesus is coming to those already in the body of Christ (he has already come).
He is here now!
If you happen to see Jesus headed down on a white cloud, It should come as no surprise (those in Christ).
If you are not in the body of Christ Jesus (surprised), you should head for the hills...I have some Caves for sale!

If Jesus is already here, then why the big announcement that he is coming soon?

Well, it's like an "Official Opening". The thing has actually been open for some time, then some twat comes along with some scissors and cuts a rbbon. Now it's "Officialy" open.

I've never seen a twat that had the dexterity to operate scissors. But can it bench 250?

I joined Mensa, and I too didn't renew after the first year.

I would have, however, if the membership dues had been cheaper. They were quite expensive.

I suppose that if you're just using it to "certify that you're smart" then it's valid to be cynical, but like anything else, you get out of it what you put into it. If you avail yourself of all the opportunities the organization offers, go to all the social events, meet the other members, you can end up hooking up with a mind-expanding set of people and perhaps end up with some really intriguing opportunities.

@PhattScotty: No the coming Messiah would not likely hold a press conference. What leads me to think this? When He appeared 2,000 years ago he didn't go through the establishment to announce His presence. He used a subservient person that didn't have wealth, nor fame and the means of announcing the King of the Jews was here, the final High Priest, the Savior, God in the flesh was here, was John the Baptist went out to the wilderness. Totally unconventional if you ask me. Jesus also started in the wilderness and then moved through from City to City. But this time the Bible says the second Coming of Jesus, He will descend from Heaven to Israel, judging with a wrath of fire and then setting up reign in Jerusalem.
So by this point armeggedon is over, so if one was to look for signs of Jesus' Coming, better to look for fulfilled prophecies that indicate His return is near, at the very door.
@notyou2: Blood moons: sure there are many blood moons when the speed of light is slowed from the length of atmosphere or debris in the atmosphere, but these blood moons that occurred on 1492, 1948 and 1967-68 were special, they either had solar eclipses with the shadow on Israel or lunar eclipses, And the blood moon signifying the nearness of the coming Messiah will also be special to authenticate a unique fulfillment.
@degaston: I like the Matrix reference :) BTW I agree with you that it seems every generation has claimed the Messiah is near. That's why in my opening post I listed some fulfilled prophecies that prior generations couldn't claim. This day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire and destruction comes. Since everything will be destroyed, we should respond to God's message of repent the kingdom of Heaven is near without delay.

Hal Lindsey coined the term blood moon in one of his books. Traditionally it meant the first full moon after harvest.

Therefore, Hal Lindsey must be on of the disciples. I assume he is self appointed.

False advertising from the single issue drum beater. Came for a money shot of the messiah, betiko seems to think could feed 5000. True christians would not be on the internet. A rather pointless circular beat up over 10pages.

Clearly you have been drinking the kool aid. Hermit/wild preachers/revival show men were the rock stars of the day. Best possible platform for a confidence trickster to launch his career. Have an established con man shout about how special you are(a con man that happens to be your cousin). JC reached the maximum possible number of his desired followers, idle lay abouts, naive poor, gullible bumpkins.

Yet another example of lazy coward who won't confront the contradictions in the blood cult he espouses. If you had read the bible, and history from the time the bible(New Testament) was written, and the time the bible(New Testament) writes about(two distinctly different times btw). You would be well aware of the quote attributed to your once and future messiah "You know not the time, nor the place when the son of man will return in all his glory"

So this endless speculation, and "biblical" maths <coughs> by some deluded mouth breathers is just public wanking.

betiko wrote:So why do you not recognize Mahomet as a more up to date messiah after jesus?

Muhammad recognized Jesus as a prophet, no more. This is contrary to the Bible, so one must chose which Holy book is correct. The reason calling Jesus merely a prophet is contrary to the Bible is because in the Bible Jesus is recognized as God in the flesh and Co-Creator of the universe and goes on to say that no one has ever seen God the Father at any time. So all the Old Testament appearing of God in the flesh was God the son, Jesus.

Why do I call the awaited Messiah Jesus? Well it was He Himself that said He was returning in judgment. The New Testament is filled with declarations of Jesus' return. He has many names:
Jesus, Christ, Prince of Peace, Alpha & Omega, beginning & End, Almighty father, Wonderful Counselor, Emmanuel, Lord, Lord of Lords, King of Kings, I AM, Yahweh, Captain of Host, Morning Star, God the Son, etc.
Should be noted that the Quran tells of a coming Mujaddid (Messiah) as well. So all of Judism, Muslim and Christians are awaiting the coming Messiah, and all three say the time is near.

-------------
Another sign the coming Messiah is near, the Quran prophesies that there will be 42 generations after Muhammad and the Mujaddid will return riding on Arabian white horses. We are at the 42nd generation! The Prince of Jordan proclaims to be the 42nd heir to Muhammad! This is significant, numbers mean a lot. Jesus was 42 generations from Abraham (Matthew 1)

Spot on. If you're getting enough out of it it's worth it. I went to a ton of debates and lectures, met loads of interesting people, joined several hobby groups (including a board game one) Then I stopped working in the big city (which was where all this happened), and had other stuff to do, so I let my membership lapse.

A. The Messiah will show up after 7 years of tribulation.
B. When He shows up, He won't be the meek sacrificial lamb, quite the contrary. This coming will be infull glory, Majesty and He is coming with wrath of fire.

So when believers proclaim the Messiah is near, we are saying the start of the 7 year tribulation that includes:
7 seals of: Peace treaty, war, famine, death, martyrdom, asteroid impacts, sun light is blocked, volcanoes,
7 bowls of plagues: all hell breaks lose. Demons released from a prison to torment, a large asteroid hits the earth, kills 1/3 of all marine life, 1/3 of all vegetation, etc.
7 Trumpets: even deadlier destruction so that every island is moved, every mountain top is brought down & the earth is hit so hard that it wobbles like a drunkard and splits asunder.

Then the Messiah sets up his Kingdom in Jerusalem. His glory will cause no night time in the area. All sin will be eradicated. Only 144,000 Jews (12K from each tribe) & newly saved people that missed the rapture will be alive.

So if someone is looking for signs that the Messiah is near, look to see what signs have been fulfilled in the last 70 years.

-----
Another sign is: God created everything in 6 days & rested the 7th day.
Jesus spent 6 hours on the cross & rested the 7th hour.
Adam & Eve were created 6,000 years ago, after the Messiah comes, is 1,000 years of rest.

@koolbak: I don't need a bunch of 1v1 to prove my averageness. I've already proclaimed I'm no better than any of the top 250 players. I play the top players and they are very good players.
