American NBL in Australia?

Postby TeeGee on Fri Mar 21, 2014 5:56 am

But why? What is the thinking behind this? We don't even have any baseball ovals and are having to convert one of our cricket ovals for the game.
I need someone to explain the game to me.. It looks a lot like softball (a game the girls play here). Am I close?

Yes it is very similar to softball. Basically the same rules. Softball is kind of like a relaxed version of baseball. There is also slow pitch softball which is even more relaxed. A softball is much bigger than a baseball.

In Canada most amateur leagues are softball leagues, many more than baseball and both men and women play, and some leagues are mixed.

Oh, it is a baseball diamond, not an oval.

I am actually quite surprised there isn't a fair amount of baseball played in Australia after the Yanks were stationed there during and after WWII.

They had a "national" baseball league here about 15 or so years ago,I think it lasted 2 maybe 3 years... I will try and find more details.. It never really got the crowd support, but apparently they have sold out for tomorrow nights game.. not our biggest sports stadium, but 60,000 seats so there is some interest out here

edit: to my surprise the Australian Baseball League still exists, just don't here any news about it on TV or radio.. But there has to be money in it as teams play from each state in Australia excluding Tasmania

For the record, TG, it's MLB - Major League Baseball.

There are a few Australians playing in the MLB as well. Not many, but some. And I have no idea why we'd go play Down Under; I think it's stupid.

Bollocks.

For the same reason the NFL is playing games in Europe.
