universalchiro wrote:Every generation has claimed the time is near, what makes this generation different that the coming Messiah is near. There are many signs and fulfilled prophecies indicating we are near, here is a brief list of some signs:

1. Israel becoming a nation. Israel hasn't been a nation for 2,500 years until 1948. But Israel didn't have Jerusalem.
2. Israel captures capital city Jerusalem in 1967.
3. Euphrates river will dry up to allow 200 million man army to march from far East. Turkey has built many damns and threatens a water tax to lower countries or they'll stop the flow.
4. China boasted 200+ million man army in late 1980's.
5. People will go to & fro quickly. For 5,900 years the fasted mankind traveled was the speed of one horse, now we cross the Atlantic in hours. This speed of travel exponentially increased in last 100 years.
6. Knowledge will increase. The last 100+/- years knowledge has exponentially increased compared to the previous 5,900 years.
7. One world religion. Pope recently announced that if an atheist or agnostic obey their moral conscience, they'll go to heaven. This has unified all religions under the umbrella of obey moral conscience & heaven awaits you. Bible says Nope, Jesus is the only way to Heaven.
8. Armeggedon will have such destruction that elements will melt, flesh melting, nuclear weapons explains this.
The list keeps going.
9. Falling away from God and Bible. Hate increases towards believers/God/Bible.
10. Reversal of thinking, what is good is thought of as evil and what is wicked is thought of as natural.
11. Another sign of the coming Messiah: The Bible describes in the end times, Israel would be the land flowing with milk and honey. Yet in 1948 when Israel was born again, the land was desolate, a waste land of desert, fast forward 60 years, Israel is the world leader in milk production per cow. It was known that the European Holstein cattle were the top producers of milk, not so fast. Israel milk production is 2,000 gallons more per cow than American counterparts. Israel use to pay high tariff tax for importing honey, but having just traveled to Israel, they have initiated multiple bee farms and now produce their own honey. Indeed the land is flowing with milk and honey.
Bible says, "no one knows the day or hour... when the fig tree sprouts leaves you know the harvest is near". The signs have started, the time is near. Get ready. The creator of the Universe, Jesus, is coming soon!

Another sign the the Messiah is near:
There will be many false Christs, the way to know if they are false is only via the Bible.

Another sign of the Coming Messiah is near:
Scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, "where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish in the coming judgment, but everyone to come to repentance. This day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire and destruction comes. Since everything will be destroyed, we should respond to God's message of repent the kingdom of Heaven is near without delay.

Another sign of the Coming Messiah:
The believers in Christ will not all die, some will be caught up into the air in the twinkling of an eye. Their bodies will remain on earth, lifeless. Their souls and spirits will be raptured up to Heaven. Some believe this to be before the 7 year tribulation starts, some say during, some say at the end. Probably the world will shrug this off as a mass suicide. But maybe the numbers of believers is smaller than we think. The Bible says few follow the narrow way of God and many follow the broad way to destruction.

Another sign of the coming Messiah:
There will be signs in the Heavens. Such as a blood moon. The last four blood moons with an eclipse have occurred on monumental moments in history:
1492 at the time of Columbus discovering America.
1948 Israel becomes a Nation.
1967-68 Israel captures Jerusalem.

Another sign the coming Messiah is near:
The Quran prophesies that there will be 42 generations after Muhammad and the Mujaddid will return riding on Arabian white horses. We are at the 42nd generation! The Prince of Jordan proclaims to be the 42nd heir to Muhammad! This is significant, numbers mean a lot. Jesus was 42 generations from Abraham (Matthew 1)

Some major signs to look for just prior to the coming of the Messiah that tells you He is less than 7 years away:
1. Seven year peace treaty with Israel.
2. Israel builds Solomon's Temple on the Temple mount, not where the Rock of the Dome is, but next to it.
3. Hyper-inflation
4. Famine
5. Plagues
6. Anti-Christ breaks the 7yr peace treaty at the 1,260th day and declares himself worthy to be worshiped.

Another sign of the Coming Messiah:
There will be two witnesses that will prepare the way for the Messiah, these two holy men will be killed for their preaching while the whole world watches and the world will celebrate their death and pass around gifts. But they will rise from the grave after three days.
One of the witnesses will be in the spirit of Elijah, but he will be a unique human being with probably a different name, so when he is asked "are you the Elijah coming to prepare the way for the Messiah?", he will probably say no, I am the voice in the wilderness calling for repentance for the kingdom is at hand.

When will the Messiah will show up? after 7 years of tribulation. When He shows up, He won't be the meek sacrificial lamb, quite the contrary. This coming will be infull glory, Majesty and He is coming with wrath of fire.

So when believers proclaim the Messiah is near, we are saying the start of the 7 year tribulation is near which includes:
7 seals of: Peace treaty, war, famine, death, martyrdom, asteroid impacts, sun light is blocked, volcanoes,
7 bowls of plagues: all hell breaks lose. Demons released from a prison to torment, a large asteroid hits the earth, kills 1/3 of all marine life, 1/3 of all vegetation, etc.
7 Trumpets: even deadlier destruction so that every island is moved, every mountain top is brought down & the earth is hit so hard that it wobbles like a drunkard and splits asunder.
Then the Messiah sets up his Kingdom in Jerusalem. His glory will cause no night time in the area. All sin will be eradicated. Only 144,000 Jews (12K from each tribe) & newly saved people that missed the rapture will be alive.

So if someone is looking for signs that the Messiah is near, look to see what signs have been fulfilled in the last 60 years.

Interesting note: God created everything in 6 days & rested the 7th day.
Jesus spent 6 hours on the cross & rested the 7th hour.
Adam & Eve were created 6,000 years ago, after the Messiah comes, the 7th one thousand years will be of rest.

Another punishment awaiting those who reject God that is coming soon:
The fourth angel poured out his bowl upon the sun and it was given to it to scorch men with fire. Men were scorched with fierce heat; and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues and they did not repent so as to give Him glory.

That is what is coming soon to all those who reject God. Oh but not for the believer, oh no we will be raptured up into Heaven and worshiping God.

You alone have a choice and you alone are responsible for your choice. Choose now the Lord for soon calamity is coming.

Just suppose all this is correct UC..I am already doomed because your omniscient God would know I was only trying to dodge my punishment if I pretended to repent. At least I might keep my self-respect my way.

Lone voice?
Wilderness of hate?

Do you not live in the United States? You have the freedom to practice your religion and a vast minority (if not majority) of your fellow citizens are Christians of some denomination or another.

I should not quote from scripture, so I won't, but prosthelytizing is all well and good, but Jesus didn't think well of chest pounders; he wanted his followers to be humble. Perhaps you should think on that a little.

Plus 1..is this not the same US where atheists are routinely discriminated against and unbelievably cannot stand for public office in some states?Seems groups that have had their own way for long periods often can't handle it when mildly challenged. In Europe you would be laughed out of court..

Atheists are not roundly discriminated against. That as much of a jackass comment as universalichiro's comment.

Depends what you would say qualifies as 'routinely',I never said 'roundly'.
What else would you call six states constitutions officially having religious tests that effectively prevent atheists from holding public office,or in some cases being a juror or witness. If these are not generally enforced currently, why not repeal them in the name of fairness and equality?
Even the boy scouts of America ban atheists from joining. This in the 21st century in a 1st world country that boasts of being the land of the free!!Not my idea of freedom..
You can hardly be unaware of the many cases,as a lawyer, brought claiming discrimination against atheists in areas ranging from child custody to education to the military to local government.Recent polls in the US have results showing greater 'disapproval' of atheists than of Afro-Americans,Muslims and homosexuals.No-one seriously thinks these groups are not discriminated against.I've only scratched the surface of cases easily found on the net.
But if you remain unconvinced, just ask yourself why virtually no elected officials are willing to admit to atheism in the US?This stopped mattering nearly everywhere else in the developed world decades ago..

You know nothing about America, so you take specific examples and make them the rule of the land. Regarding your question as to why certain laws aren't repealed if they aren't enforced: this is a problem, yes, but with millions of ordinances across this massive country, these things take time. After all, we're the third most populated country in the world.

As for the boy scouts, they're moving in the right direction by allowing openly gay scouts, but what do you expect on the ban on atheists? They're a religious organization?

Respect if you intended to be ironic with your sweeping ignorance because of the nature of this thread. If you weren't, then I feel bad for you, son.

Shock horror,a non-American dares have an opinion about the US...and please don't patronise me,junior. The real irony in my view is one country regularly trying to export it's version of freedom all over the world often at the point of a gun, simultaneously unable to accept criticism from any external source. This parochial and hypocritical attitude only hardens opinions against your country, something to feel bad about.

Another sign during the tribulation that proceeds the arrival of the Messiah:
The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became darkened; and they gnawed their tongues because of pain, and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores; and they did not repent of their deeds.

Oh but the believers won't have to endure this suffering, believers are raptured up to heaven before this. This special punishment is for those who reject God.

Christ reigns on earth for 1,000 years, then Satan is released to formulate a final rebellion and then the Great judgement when immortal bodies are given to those in Hell and they are thrown with Satan and demons into a Lake of fire to suffer eternity. Believers are given immortal bodies to love and glorify God for eternity and a new Heaven and New earth are created.

Valid points about a non-American being able to have an opinion about the U.S. notwithstanding, it is rather offensive and ignorant to equate, in any way, racial or ethnic discrimination with a perceived discrimination against atheists. First, I don't think there is one and I've never seen it. Generally, religion plays no part in the workplace (and I've worked everywhere from a small town, rural-type ice cream shop to a mega corporatoin). Second, any bias against non-religious is limited to politics and specific issues (e.g. gay marriage) and not to atheists in general. This is not the thread for this, but you're way off base. Is the United States a haven for Christians? Sure. Is the United States a bastion of atheist hate? Of course not. Individual Americans may not be as tolerant of atheism as say, your average Dutch folk, but we aren't discriminating against atheists.

Wasn't the rapture dreamed up by a little girl in Germany in the mid 1800's and then written about by an author that Christians took hold of as truth? I'm pretty sure the rapture is a newer view to Christians.

Side note: defeating God was simultaneously much more and much less difficult than I would have imagined.

And, thinking about it, what did God do before creation?
He couldn't be omnipresent (there was nowhere to be), omnnipotent (there was nothing to do anyhing with) and he couldn't be omniscient (there was nothing to know). He couldn't move, talk, or anything else.
And how long did this go on for?

Postby universalchiro on Sat Mar 29, 2014 12:45 am

@warmonger: I don't think it matters who discovered the concept of the rapture, I think it matters whether the idea is in the Bible or not. From my reading, I find theologians debating when the catching away of the saints occurs, not whether it occurs.

@jonescurl: I don't think the universe is thrown away, from my reading it seems the universe is used in the judgment as well. For example: The Bible describes Jesus as sustaining His creation and during the the tribulation, He uses His creation for judgment. Just like He used the canopy of water that once hovered around the atmosphere for an ambient global temperature and then for global flood. I'm seeing the universe will be used in much the same way, now as part of the glory of His creation displaying His majesty, soon for judgement. How? unknown, but I can imagine how a couple of supernovas can propel the Kuipper belt into earth's solar orbital path causing some Biblical problems.

I don't know what God did before creation, but your logic is limiting God to our dimension. I'm pretty sure that if you expand God's presence beyond our 3rd dimension then your argument losing merit. One hole is that God doesn't increase in knowledge, your argument presupposes God increased in knowledge at the moment He created everything. This is not what the Bible teaches. In fact the Bible teaches that God with predetermined and foreknowledge did...

Some things are beyond our knowing. The Bible describes that we know in part and we will know in full upon being in His presence in heaven. So there are some unanswerable questions, but the Bible provides all the knowledge we need unto salvation and to be able to carry out His works and living on earth, so that we are complete lacking nothing in that regard. But knowing what God did before creation is not helpful unto salvation and conducting life on earth.

@chang: I know you playfully are saying you reject the God of the Bible, it's your free choice, but when the crap starts to hit the fan, remember these foolish threads and grab a Bible quick and start reading as fast as possible. And if you haven't read the Bible, but just reject it based on what others have told you or hurtful actions of christians, then read for yourself, discover on your own.

Another sign of the end times is earthquakes. They are suppose to be more frequent and more intense, but the USGA will always tell you that 'NO' the earthquakes are not increasing they are staying the same. You look at the numbers and judge.

Number of Earthquakes Worldwide for 2000 - 2012
Located by the US Geological Survey National Earthquake Information Center
(M4.5+ for most of the world; doesn't include US regional network contributions)
Magnitude 2000 to 2012
8.0 to 9.9 14/13yrs = 1.08/yr average +80% increase from prior decade
7.0 to 7.9 185/13 = 14.2/yr average -3% decrease from prior decade
6.0 to 6.9 1890/13 = 145.4/yr average +9% increase from prior decade
5.0 to 5.9 21516/13 = 1,655/yr average +24.7% increase from prior decade

Number of Earthquakes Worldwide for 1990 - 1999
Located by the US Geological Survey National Earthquake Information Center
Magnitude 1990 to 1999
8.0 to 9.9 6/10yrs = 0.6/yr average
7.0 to 7.9 147/10 = 14.7/yr average
6.0 to 6.9 1339/10= 133.9/yr average
5.0 to 5.9 13276/10 = 1,327.6/yr average

it's easy to see the trend is an increase in earthquakes quantity and quality overall.

By being respectful to someone who has a history of being disrespectful, then being a gentlemen is counter-productive in this scenario. It's like arguing with racists. Use as much logic as you like, but with nearly all of them, being a gentlemen doesn't amount to anything positive while it coddles them: "Yes, I'm being taken seriously!." Some people need to be treated cruelly for the cruel idiots that they are.

An investment banker dies and goes to Heaven. He is met at the Pearly Gates by the Archangel Gabriel who welcomes the banker and advises him that he can elect to spend the rest of his days in either Heaven or Hell. However, the banker must spend a day in each location before making his final choice.

First up Heaven: The banker has a good look around, and meets lots of pleasant people who appear to spend most of their days playing harps in the clouds. A nice place, the banker feels, but somewhat boring.

Next comes Hell. The banker is greeted at the door by the Devil. And what a nice chap he is too. And the weather's wonderful. The sun's shining, there are lots of familiar faces playing golf, having a few drinks and generally having a great old time.

Two days after first meeting him, the banker returns to Gabriel to make his choice for all eternity.

'Well,' the banker said. 'I've spent a day in Heaven and a day in Hell. Heaven seems like a nice place and the people are fine. But Hell's the place for me - it's full of my kind of people, and there's so many interesting things to do'. Gabriel shakes hands with the banker who then descends the escalator to Hell and bangs on the door.

When the door opens, all the banker sees is a barren wasteland. And the heat! His friends are there, but they are all dressed in rags and are walking around in chains. The perplexed banker spots the Devil and goes over to find out what's happened.

'I don't understand it', the banker says. 'I was here just two days ago and this place was fantastic and everyone was so happy. What's gone wrong ?'.

'Ah,' replies the Devil with a smile. 'But two days ago we were recruiting........'

I like the story about the fox who has a bone, and when he sees his reflection in a well he opens his mouth to grab the other fox's bone, at which point he drops his bone into the well. And then he has no bones.

Be careful with your bones in case you drop then into water.
